Cumbre Vieja Volcano -- Potential collapse and tsunami at La Palma, Canary Islands

Very old doom news for most here on GLP unless, it's been getting more active. The History Channel even did a show about it a couple of years ago.

Who knows? Could happen in our lifetime.

Its possible, although so far as I know there are no signs of impending eruption at Cumbre Vieja, and even in the next eruption the portion of the Island that is slipping into the sea might not slip this time around or next time, however it will go eventually.

Wouldn't take an eruption, an 8.0 or larger EQ would do the job... last week there were a chain of EQ's in the general area, though a considerable ways away from La Palma... but if that part of the Atlantic Rift is starting to wake up it is worth keeping an eye on.

No older risk than all the Yellowstone is gonna blow doom...

If LaPalma went the tsunami would so fully wipe out NYC and the entire eastern seaboard of the USA that the events of 911 would be a very distant memory... not even worth questioning.

We need to keep the thread open, where can we find possible scenarios?? wave magnitude Etc???How deep inland?
