Atheist Ireland Publishes 25 Blasphemous Quotes
Filed under: Atheist Ireland, Campaign, Freedom of Speech, Is this Blasphemy?, Quotes — Michael Nugent @ 12:33 am

From today, 1 January 2010, the new Irish blasphemy law becomes operational, and we begin our campaign to have it repealed. Blasphemy is now a crime punishable by a €25,000 fine. The new law defines blasphemy as publishing or uttering matter that is grossly abusive or insulting in relation to matters held sacred by any religion, thereby intentionally causing outrage among a substantial number of adherents of that religion, with some defences permitted.

This new law is both silly and dangerous. It is silly because medieval religious laws have no place in a modern secular republic, where the criminal law should protect people and not ideas. And it is dangerous because it incentives religious outrage, and because Islamic States led by Pakistan are already using the wording of this Irish law to promote new blasphemy laws at UN level.

We believe in the golden rule: that we have a right to be treated justly, and that we have a responsibility to treat other people justly. Blasphemy laws are unjust: they silence people in order to protect ideas. In a civilised society, people have a right to to express and to hear ideas about religion even if other people find those ideas to be outrageous.

Publication of 25 blasphemous quotes

In this context we now publish a list of 25 blasphemous quotes, which have previously been published by or uttered by or attributed to Jesus Christ, Muhammad, Mark Twain, Tom Lehrer, Randy Newman, James Kirkup, Monty Python, Rev Ian Paisley, Conor Cruise O’Brien, Frank Zappa, Salman Rushdie, Bjork, Amanda Donohoe, George Carlin, Paul Woodfull, Jerry Springer the Opera, Tim Minchin, Richard Dawkins, Pope Benedict XVI, Christopher Hitchens, PZ Myers, Ian O’Doherty, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor and Dermot Ahern.

Despite these quotes being abusive and insulting in relation to matters held sacred by various religions, we unreservedly support the right of these people to have published or uttered them, and we unreservedly support the right of any Irish citizen to make comparable statements about matters held sacred by any religion without fear of being criminalised, and without having to prove to a court that a reasonable person would find any particular value in the statement.

Campaign begins to repeal the Irish blasphemy law

We ask Fianna Fail and the Green Party to repeal their anachronistic blasphemy law, as part of the revision of the Defamation Act that is included within the Act. We ask them to hold a referendum to remove the reference to blasphemy from the Irish Constitution.

We also ask all TDs and Senators to support a referendum to remove references to God from the Irish Constitution, including the clauses that prevent atheists from being appointed as President of Ireland or as a Judge without swearing a religious oath asking God to direct them in their work.

If you run a website, blog or other media publication, please feel free to republish this statement and the list of quotes yourself, in order to show your support for the campaign to repeal the Irish blasphemy law and to promote a rational, ethical, secular Ireland.

Blasphemy is a word that does not belong in any legislation in a civilised country. It is completely subjective and has no practical relevance to legal business, private or public. It's the same as saying Santa Claus or Tinker Bell get to legislate. It is in short, madness.

Only a matter of time, all major governments are ultimately controlled by the same faction.

Smoking ban in New York > Scotland > England.
FDA rules/findings often determine NHS policy. etc etc

First comes drinking in public, then smoking, then chewing gum, then it will be eating (due to litter or some other lame excuse), then it will be swearing/music, then passing wind/talking. Eventually people are following lines when they walk somewhere like in all the nightmare movies we see.
If you tolerate this your children will be next.

Ireland is a far more liberal country than the USA. So stop being so self-rightous. A far higher percentage of Yanks go to church than the Irish do. Now, with this out of the way...

The law was brought in by the current government (Led by the Fianna Fail party) without a public debate. Most Irish people polled were against the law. It was snook through without even the media doing much coverage of it.

Do you know whom the Justice minister consulted before the introduction...The Islamic Council of Ireland.

The law was used by the Fianna Fail party currently in power to buy the growing Irish Islamic vote which they hope to be a swing vote for them.

This "law" has nothing to do with the majority of Irish people, the return of a Catholic Inquisition - it is about nothing other than filthy politicians, using the scam of "Democracy" to buy the next election at any cost.

It is not even the fault of Irish moslems. Just Filthy Irish Politicians who like Polticians everywhere are sociopaths who want to hold power at any cost.

Blaming "the Irish" for this bullshit, would be akin to blaming the American people for 9-11.

They tried this here in Norway as well last spring. It didn't float at all, people went ballistic. This shit is pushed by some moslem-dominated "human rights" UN organisation, and I know there's been an effort to implement "blasphemy laws" in all of Europe through EU-legislation.

What this "enrichment of immigration" rapidly turned into over here is totally insane and surreal. The leftist multiculturalist traitors in power are obviously in a hurry, to utterly destroy our culture, national identity, solidarity and future.

But people are waking up from the lies and abuse, and will not take too much more of this. I hope to live to see the incompatibles repatriated, and our homegrown traitors executed.

Thanks for beinging some reality to this thread.

That's what happened here in Ireland...except the Irish moslems would appear to far more politically powerful here in Ireland than in Norway.

It is not correct to even blame Moslems for this. The driving force behind what happened in Ireland is a group called Common Purpose who make a habit of inciting hatred between different ethnic groups and then riding in and "solving the problem" by spending public money to fix something they caused.

Look hard enough at Common Purpose are you arrive that the Fabian Society...ie: ARISTOCRATIC COMMUNISTS.

Meanwhile the rest of the world throws their hands up and announces "the fucking Irish!" when most Irish people are completely bewildered by this law and had no say in it.

It is not even Moslems really. They are being used as pawns in Ireland to implement this law at EU levels.

[link to www.commonpurpose.ie]

but this is what they are really about:

[link to www.wethepeople.ie]

Common Purpose - a Cancer in Society

"Common Purpose (CP) is a so-called 'Charity', based in England but permeated throughout Europe, including Ireland, They claim to create ‘Future Leaders’ of society.
Common Purpose selects individuals and ‘trains’ them to learn how society works, who 'pulls the levers of power' and how CP ‘graduates’ can use this knowledge to lead 'Outside Authority’.

Children, teenagers and adults have their 'prejudices removed'. Graduates are ‘empowered’ to become ‘Leaders’ and work in ‘partnership’ with other CP graduates. Particular emphasis is put on schoolchildren and young people to instill in them the values that will shape society to fulfill Common Purpose's agenda.

Evidence shows that Common Purpose is more than just a Charity claiming to ‘empower' people and communities’. In fact, CP is an elitist pro-EU political organization helping to replace democracy in Ireland"

Re: Ireland Bans Blasphemy
One of the leaders of the Fabian Movement was Irish writer George Bernard Shaw who was not only a personal friend of Stalin, but demanded that people be "humanly executed" who did not accept the Fabian/Communist agenda.

He would be delighted as he burns in Hell right now with the latest Fabian tactic in Ireland. Turn the Irish against the Moslems then abondon Irish democracy in favour of Communism and then move the agenda to the next EU state.

Please people before you make fun of the Irish for this realise this just the kind of trap awakwened people on GLP should not be falling into.

The Rabbit Hole is very deep. Always look for who is really pulling the strings...
