drink YERBA MATTE tea, it's kind of smoky earthy woody taste, may help to replace the urges...plus it's loaded with antioxidants, give energy without jittery caffeine.

Re: Closet smoker for years and I finally quit
Loved smoking and I smoked for years.

I wasn't one to smoke constantly or all day long or even out in public, but I smoked one cigarette in the morning with my coffee and newspaper, after a meal, while having a mixed drink, just before and after work and after sex.

I quit smoking one week ago today.
No patch...no pills.
Cold turkey.

While the strong urges are getting farther and farther apart, they are still VERY STRONG.

How long before these urges ease up in intensity?

Re: Closet smoker for years and I finally quit
LOL, a lot of folks have quit recently, maybe because it,s new years.....I,m in the same boat, I got 9 days clean....I agree with Penn on the mind over matter thing. I,m using Tony Robbins work by reinforcing the negatives of smoking into my brain every night. That and a hit of weed once in a while is really working out..
 Quoting: MI6 787138

I was with ya until the "weed" comment.

LOL

If I hit the weed (haven't done that in a few years)
I'd go back to smoking cigarettes. No weed/pot for me. ;)

Hey...congrats on the 9 days...keep it up.

Well done, Ms. Beings! Don't go back to it.

I've been clean for over 13 years, now, but it was a case of third attempt being the charm.

It is really hard to quit but cold turkey was the only thing that worked for me. I set a date many years ago that the day I left the navy i would quit. Walked off the sub and threw a pack of marlboros in the cooper river.

Hang in there. Cravings will last 6 months or so.

Dont give in!

I was a very heavy smoker for about 14 years, and quit 'cold turkey' just over a year now. My entire body was in shock for weeks, and i became pretty sure i was dying at one point.

One or two cigs a day should be easy to quit in comparison. Just make sure that as soon as you feel a craving you occupy your mind as soon as possible.

This might be a little off topic...

I work with two firefighters and they both smoke.I find this strange as firefighters know the danger of inhaling smoke.

You quit cold turkey...Very nice

Each time a person stands for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he or she sends forth a tiny ripple of hope. And crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance. Few are willing to embrace the disapproval of their fellows, the censure of their colleagues, the wrath of their society. Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential vital quality for those who seek to change a world that yields most painfully to change. i quit chewing tobacco about 3 months ago, cold turkey. after the first week or so it is all mental, i would compare it to thinking of an old girlfriend you used to bang, great memory but can't go back.

It shouldn't be much of a problem for you.

For me, being a hardcore, two-pack-a-day kinda guy, it was ... shall we say, difficult!

Re: Closet smoker for years and I finally quit
Congratulations, I quit the same way twice and haven't smoked in probably 25 years. Cold turkey is the way to go. I could only quit in the middle of a pack though. I knew if I quit at the end of a pack all I would have to do was buy another one, so I kept the pack in my pocket the whole time, and if I had the urge to smoke one I would just think how bad I would feel afterwords. The hard thing was trying to figure out what to do with my hands after I quit. Its a phycological addiction too but with time your hands calm down also.
