Thanks for the bump Free Store. hf

I kept checking Paypal yesterday for a way to help and they didn't have it available then.

I'm glad they put it up today. It's way faster than mailing checks and a much more secure way to use your credit cards.

Wonderful!

They desperately need medical attention. All help sent to any of the honest charities is needed.

Whenever a great tragedy such as this happens, I generally would send my donations to Red Cross and The Salvation Army. But the last few times I've used payPal and Save the Children.

Blessings to you INK. hf

NEARLY $A537 million in tsunami aid for Sri Lanka is unaccounted for and more than $A686 million has been spent on projects unrelated to the disaster, an anti-corruption watchdog says.

Berlin-based Transparency International has demanded an audit of the money received by the Sri Lankan Government to help victims of the Asian tsunami, which hit the island on December 26, 2004, killing 31,000 people.

The group's Sri Lankan chapter said at the weekend the public had a right to know how the aid money was spent, as the country marked the fifth anniversary of the tsunami.

The group alleged that out of $US2.2 billion ($A2.5 billion) received for relief, $US603.4 million was spent on projects unrelated to the disaster. Another $US471.9 million was missing.

''There is no precise evidence to explain the missing sum,'' Transparency International said in a statement issued in Colombo.

incompotent springs to mind,

read below,

by Michael Renner on July 7, 2006

Funds have been frozen and projects are on hold while audits are being undertaken. To date, only 10.4 percent of the funds allocated by the government have actually been spent.

Unscrupulous building contractors for projects carried out by two NGOs, Save the Children and Oxfam, built structures so flimsy that a new wave would wash them away. Instead of sinking foundations up to 60 centimeters, they propped wooden stilts on stones without any foundation. The timber used was substandard and is already warping. Although the contractors have been dismissed, neither compensation nor criminal proceedings are likely.

The Aceh Anti-Corruption Movement recommended that Save the Children demolish all 741 buildings and start over. The NGO may thus have to write off more than £400,000 spent on schools and other buildings in Bireun, Pidie and Lhokseumawe districts.

Save the Children says it has to date constructed 798 new houses. Its inspection found 612 of them requiring major reconstruction and the remaining 186 requiring moderate or minor work. The group has temporarily suspended new construction.

Additional cases of fraud and corruption have been uncovered by the Aceh Anti-Corruption Movement, the government’s Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Agency, and others.

The way I see it is my fucked up of a government who have been paying for ornamental flowers in their gardens or even paying for a second home so they can get to work easier should be looking at helping those more in need rather than making their homes look prettier.
Now what you need to realise is those of us who wish to donate, no matter how skint we are and how much the donation is, it is our money and we can do what the hell we like with it, there are people dieing out there with no means of helping themselves, Haiti are confused right now, they have no aid, USA/UK have money but waste it on war, don't dictate to those who want to help out the needy, especially when our governments CAN help our fellow men who are in need but waste our money !!

If you don't want to give, or don't trust any organization then this thread is obviously not for you.

I can't take help to them myself, so I do my homework and give in faith that it will get to those in need.

So you are saying at least half the money did help people out there. Seems like a good reason to donate. Pat Robertson was right when he said the people of Haiti were cursed if people like yourself aren't willing to donate to any causing in an underdeveloped nation.

my gut says that less than 1% of all money donated will actually reach the poor who really need it.

you are better off sending money directly to people in need. Find someone who knows someone there and give them the money directly. Or send goods directly.

The middlemen are the scammers.

It has been shown time and time again.
