I have a few.things handed down to me that belong to grandparents, most of it which a lot of monatary value. Sell it ? Hell no! It wasn't given to to me to sell, it was given to me as part of my family history that I will some day pass to my children or grand children. There will always be scum that what will buy what you have for sale esp if times are hard and they know it, that's not the problem, the problem are those willing to sell their family history. |

TO think for one minute this would somehow be cleared to air is appalling. To brag or somehow boast about an unsolicited visit to Leland's farm and the price paid versus the actual value should be illegal. If this would have been my granddad I would have felt robbed of my family heirloom and treasures. The History Channel should immediately cancel this show!!!!!!!!!!!!! We were so looking forward to a new show that was really about hidden treasures in American not thievery we couldn't even finish the show. Quoting: HISTORY CHANNEL****FOR SHAME** 868648 These guys are scum bags !!!!! Nice job History Channel way to promote thieves . I would love to meet these guys face to face , and work a deal out with them. If you know what I mean ! And my parents always told me crime doesn't pay, unless you make a show for the History Channel .Way to teach kids its ok to steal from the older generation. History Channel you should make things right pay these people fair price for their stuff, and fire these dirt bags You're surprised?! Take a look around. We have nothing but good examples of thievery everywhere we look. Our government does a fine job of this, as do the police (freedom/money), the military (our freedom/money), universities (our money), banks (our money), corporations (our jobs & our money)etc., etc. We have nothing but examples of thievery. There are no redeeming qualities left in this world any longer, save about 3% of the population who have a problem with it all. So, no... not surprising at all to see a TV show screwing some old folks. Par for the course. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 59010888 United States 01/26/2015 09:10 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Here is a funny example that just happened to a picker I know yesterday. This picker (we'll call him picker A) went to a garage sale and found 2, antique xxx's (don't want to say in case this post is read by him). He made an offer of $20 each and it was accepted. The items were actually worth $300 to $400 each. As he was loading one of them into his car, he didn't see a man walk up to the other one and put his hand on it trying to hold it for himself until the seller came his way. In the meantime, this other gentleman had one hand on the item, the other on his I-phone looking up the resale value of the item. In the meantime, picker A walks back and asks what picker B thinks he is doing and asks the seller to inform picker B that the item is already sold. Picker B, angry that he was a few minutes too late, tells the seller, "look, these sell for $500. This guy's just going to turn around and sell it for that." We'll, that's exactly what he was going to do also. The seller hearing the actual value of the items then tries to renegotiate the price with picker A. The seller actually stated that there's no way he would have sold them for $40 total if he knew what they were worth. Lucky for picker A the seller's wife came out and said, "you made a deal honey so deal with it". Another example of a seller ONLY accepting a ridiculous offer on his item(s) because he didn't know the fair market value. When informed of the reality of value, he changed his tune really quickly. The funniest part about this story is that this picker (A) has a bad gambling problem and when these items sell, he'll just loose the money in a week or less as usual. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 59010888 United States 01/26/2015 09:16 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've heard for years the pro pickers argument, "they were willing to sell it for what I offered so it's a fair deal". I've always said that if they seller were actually informed as to an item's actual resale value, they'd change their price really quick. Here is a funny example that just happened to a picker I know yesterday. The seller hearing the actual value of the items then tries to renegotiate the price with picker A. pissedoffcapalion User ID: 42506202 United States 01/29/2015 09:30 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Watched yesterday's show (1-28-15), and I'm still outraged. (Driving my wife nuts, so I thought I'd let loose here.) This was the worst show since they started. I had thought they got a little better. They were robbing this poor guy. The man was accepting every (low ball) offer. Pickers weren't even trying to bargain. They were taking advantage of this guy. They had the nerve to dicker about dust on an Edison wax cylinder phonograph with the cylinders. Come on now!! Once they saw that he was taking any offer offered, they starting making even lower offers. If these guys were buying something from a blind person, they would probably put singles in the person's hands rather than hundreds (depending on the price) because they could get away with it. This is how they act ON CAMERA. I can't even imagine what goes on behind the scenes. They have no scruples. They have no qualms about taking advantage of people. They are robbers, not pickers. If they ever come this way, I'm ready for them. These guys have no conscience, no principles. I understand making a profit, but not when you take advantage of a person. That's just theft. They are SCUM. They make politicians look honest. They would probably steal candy from a child. This show just took the cake. |
Joe Schmo User ID: 59010888 United States 02/03/2015 09:49 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You people act as if they hadn't shown up all these folks would be living on easy street had they not been "ripped off". Let's be freaking honest here, on average most people are just surprised that people would WANT to buy their junk, secondly the profit margin is on average, only about 60 to 80%, so it's not like they're offering $5 and getting $5,000. Actually, the average profit margin of real pickers is around 800%-1000% (minus business costs of course). I know real pickers and watch what they sell and for how much. I always find out what they paid for many items. By the way, when the cameras are off, those two are actually doing the same. |
Joe Schmo User ID: 59010888 United States 03/18/2015 08:59 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Another great example. One of the pickers I know bought a item at a garage sale for $40. He turned around and sold it online for $1,000 the next day. That means he could have even gotten more if he wanted to wait for the right buyer. After business expenses ($150 as a kind estimate), that's still really a profit of over 2,000%. Did he bother to tell the individual at the garage sale, "did you know that someone would be willing to pay over $1,200 for this so, I'll give you $600"? Of course not. He had a rough idea of what he could get for it while never intending to let the seller know its' true value and basically stole it for $40. |

You have no idea what you're talking about. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 68566074 That's because it's a t.v. show and not real. Those are sets and scripted, do some research and you'll see. Thats the definition of business, to make fucking profit on the products you are selling. No one is holding a fucking gun to the sellers head, mike and frank offer a price, and they either can accept it or not. Also, most of the places they go are leads on which they are invited to these peoples homes because they WANT to sell their "junk". They dont run a charity that they are looking to break even on, they run a business to make max profit on what they purchase. Wake and shut the fuck up u guys sound like idiots. |

Some have knowledge of the internet to look items up they have owned for 50 years. In a business like this if you buy something from something that is not knowledgeable I feel like anything over 75% profit should be refunded to the seller. No I am not talking about your local yard sale. These guys know what they are doing and they know what they can get for things their customers do not. |
