Moses versus Egyptian medical knowledge...God gave Moses superior medical/sanitation knowledge
Egypt without a doubt was the most advanced civilisation in the 15th Century BC They were great builders and astronomers

But lets look at their medical knowledge

The Ebers Papyrus of about 1550 BC is among the most important medical papyri of ancient Egypt

Some examples of ancient Egyptian medicine found in the Ebers papyrus

To prevent hair from turning gray, anoint it with the blood of a black calf which has been boiled in the fat of a rattlesnake.”

“Victims of poisonous snake bites are to be treated with ‘magic water.’ Water is considered ‘magic’ when it has been poured over an idol.”

“Splinters are to be treated with a mixture of worm’s blood and donkey dung.”

“To stop bleeding, rub donkey dung on a cut.”

"For contraception: a douche of crocodile dung and sour milk".

Michael D. Parkins did research on the papyrus and found that 72% of the 260 medical prescriptions in the Papyrus had no known curative elements, and many contained animal dung which contains products of fermentation and molds

Now as the Bible teaches "And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds." Acts 7:22

Don’t you think we could expect to see some of this scientific ignorance or medicinal errors shining through in the writings of Moses? Yet, we see no scientific mistakes in the 5 books of Moses such as rubbing animal dung on open wounds as the Egyptians taught.

On the contrary Moses wrote rules on hygiene & medical practises that would not be found scientifically valid until the late 19th century.Things as simple as doctors washing their hands in running water which was not done until the 19th century.Or that germs can reside in pots & pans or that germs can be passed form dead animals and humans

This is the law, when a man dieth in a tent: all that come into the tent, and all that is in the tent, shall be unclean seven days.

And every open vessel, which hath no covering bound upon it, is unclean.

And whosoever toucheth one that is slain with a sword in the open fields, or a dead body, or a bone of a man, or a grave, shall be unclean seven days.

And for an unclean person they shall take of the ashes of the burnt heifer of purification for sin, and running water shall be put thereto in a vessel:

And it shall be a perpetual statute unto them, that he that sprinkleth the water of separation shall wash his clothes; and he that toucheth the water of separation shall be unclean until even.

Numbers 19

Or read the entire chapter of Leviticus 15 which includes instructions such as "wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water" after coming into contact with diseased persons.

And quarantine laws to prevent leprosy & plaques found in Leviticus 13 & 14

Or to discard broken pottery & and if it be sodden in a brasen pot, it shall be both scoured, and rinsed in water.
Lev.6:28

So where did Moses get these advanced hygiene and medical practises...obviously not form the Egyptians

Out of the 613 laws God gave Moses 213 (1/3) are medical/sanitation regulations that insured the good health of the children of Israel if they obediently followed Gods laws

Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the LORD thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers:

And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee;
For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

Yes, God gave Moses much practical advice - from what we are to eat to keep us healthy, to how to build and maintain cities.

Most people do not understand that this advice is for all mankind - not just for the Israelites.

Very true....what surprised me on researching the above is the bad hygiene practised by Western doctors up to the 20th century. Simple things like not washing your hands in running water or changing & washing clothes. Things God gave Moses 3500 yrs ago

Re: Moses versus Egyptian medical knowledge...God gave Moses superior medical/sanitation knowledge
Being a would be Biblical scholar the Christian College libraries corpus wasn't enough and I sought info at the Universities, there was a challenge in Seminary to resolve the sources (how the Tablets were formatted and what was written in, what was the Hoshen gems and inscriptions, etc) and the ingredients of Anointing and Incense came up.

I found a book "An Ancient Egyptian Herbal" by Lise Manniche which covered the full Botanical knowledge of the Egyptians through all dynasties in one volume, it's well illustrated and written with the Hieratic and Hieroglyphic language particulars too, very concise and comprehensive.

I went on having solved several of the challenges, but thinking the Incense not important and the Anointing a simple "explain away" of fulfilled Messiah=Christ, until a series of occurrences...

My Brother was hospitalized for a mysterious job related illness (seeming a Chem inhalation burning of lungs) which had the CDC out of Atlanta there for a Month before it was diagnosed (as Bird dung), while talking with them I mentioned my Biblical knowledge involvement to which a lab tech said; "You know that stuff proves generally truer with our testing than the pharmaceutical corpus, in this case the only proven prevention and cure for lung infection after burning is the real Frankincense of the Bible!"

Again in Israel on a dig having recovered a number of the "Shekel of the sanctuary" limestone weight balls, I took them in to the digital scale and they each weighed PRECISELY 11.21 grams! Now that's serious meticulously critical weight control. Then it occurred to me what about the known ingredients, what were they really from and their properties and therefor for?

It came to be an amazing revelation learning it, and I'd love to report it... turns up the most amazing of those ingredients (skipping that controversial one) was Myrrh, and it is still the best natural anti-infection substance known for blood, and if you've got an abscess that's what should be there!

Re: Moses versus Egyptian medical knowledge...God gave Moses superior medical/sanitation knowledge
Turned up the Anointing had 5 ingredients being Olive Oil it's carrier (the 'Fruit') Myrrh (a Sap) Cinnamon (a Bark) Cassia (Potpourri Leaves) and "Calamus" (the Flower one? the Root one? or the Resin?) all were in the Egyptian Botanical.

I made several batches to apply the three 'possibles' (of the controversial ingredient) experimentally for What is the Bible Calamus or the part of the plant in Hebrew QaNaH BeSaM 'cane or fiber' and 'oily-rich or sweet-aromatic' being also a chief spice.

It had to be done in tenths to remain accurate to the proportions easily so I did that doubled to 1/5 sizes (of the Hin or Imperial Gallon) using the 1) Christian Sweet flag, 2) Calamus root, and then 3) Cannabis. They all smelled nice and appeared to be sufficient.

The First failed on a simple abrasion to relieve the initial pain or heal well (for seeming to rush it and then not letting the scab remain), thus leaving a long discomfort and slight scar -sweet flag wasn't "it" if healing is to be the test.

The Second was instant in pain relief and took less than a week to totally heal a bad cut, and I'd say it is the stuff...
Olive seals, Myrrh disinfects, Cinnamon fortifies, Cassia is nutritive, and the Calamus root is a pain killer.

The Third wasn't so dramatically pain effective but then it was a burn this time, yet the healing was up to the seconds performance, and this compound I found had a staying power that was superb, a dab'll do ya and it was very resilient not wearing away. Either of these would be an ancient bandage and no doubt could Save ones life in a wounding!

Sure..here you go

Ignaz Philipp Semmelweis (July 1, 1818 - August 13, 1865) was the Hungarian physician who demonstrated that puerperal fever (also known as "childbed fever") was contagious and that its incidence could be drastically reduced by enforcing appropriate hand-washing behavior by medical care-givers. He made this discovery in 1847 while working in the Maternity Department of the Vienna Lying-in Hospital. His failure to convince his fellow doctors led to a tragic conclusion, however, he was ultimately vindicated.

Semmelweis realized that the number of cases of puerperal fever was much larger at one of his wards than at the other. After testing a few hypotheses, he found that the number of cases was drastically reduced if the doctors washed their hands carefully before dealing with a pregnant woman. Risk was especially high if they had been in contact with corpses before they treated the women.
The germ theory of disease had not yet been developed at the time. Thus, Semelweiss concluded that some unknown "cadaveric material" caused childbed fever.

He lectured publicly about his results in 1850, however, the reception by the medical community was cold, if not hostile.
His observations went against the current scientific opinion of the time, which blamed diseases on an imbalance of the basical "humours" in the body. It was also argued that even if his findings were correct, washing one's hands each time before treating a pregnant woman, as Semmelweis advised, would be too much work.
