Angelina Jolie will restyle herself in the star-turned-stateswoman mould of Carla Bruni after her impending break-up with Brad Pitt, an undercover journalist says.

The Oscar-winning actress will have her hooks into a new man by the time she and Pitt, formerly the hottest couple in Hollywood, officially go their separate ways, writer Ian Halperin says.

And in a piece penned for London's Daily Mail newspaper, Halperin says Jolie's new target will be from outside the showbusiness world and will help recast her as a 21st-century Princess Diana.

"She wants someone more worldly, more serious," Halperin writes.

"Like Carla Bruni, who abandoned dalliances with pop musicians for the French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Jolie sees herself on the arm of someone on the world stage."

Halperin, who published Brangelina: The Untold Story of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, says the actress's constant campaigning for human rights and role as a UN goodwill ambassador is a sign of things to come.

"There are only two role models she now wishes to emulate - Jackie Onassis and Diana, Princess of Wales," he says.

"A close friend says Jolie believes she can be this era's Diana.

"She told me: 'She thinks she can be a similarly powerful and charismatic figure in global political circles.'"

It is just a matter of time before Pitt and Jolie, once the movie world's stunning power couple, formally split, says Halperin, who once posed as a hairdresser to gain access to Michael Jackson's inner circle.
