some nice things to say about FIGURE SKATING
i was watching the czech republic squeek by latvia the other nite, and switched over to figure skating during the commercials, hoping to see some good wipeouts!!!

but i have to give credit where it is due. (and this is coming from a hockey snob of 3 decades) the girls that night in their short program really did great.

i still think the guys figure skating and the ice dancing is pretty lame, to put it politely.

but what little i saw of the top pairs skaters and especially the korean and japanese girls in the short program. was very impressive by any sporting standards.

i still hate what the hack figure skaters do to the ice where i play hockey. but i can sympathize a bit, giving them the benefit of the doubt that this (examples set in short program) is what they are visualizing and practicing for.

since im reserving this post for NICE COMMENTS on figure skaters. i have nothing to say about johnny wierd and evan lycacek dance

Johnny Weir is a beautiful skater. His artistry is superb.

I watched the figure skating last night and enjoyed it. It takes a lot of skill to pull off those moves and anyone who bags it out should try it themselves to see how hard it probably is.

i am over 40, have coached power skating and hockey skills. and i can do the EDGE JUMPS that figure skaters do IN HOCKEY SKATES.

and i know at least 2 dozen other skaters who can do the jumps THAT DONT REQUIRE A TOE PICK - EVEN THE AXEL -- IN HOCKEY SKATES.

Re: some nice things to say about FIGURE SKATING
All of the skaters do amazing things and have to have great strength and stamina to do them. Nothing lame about it. Plus they have to show some artistry and gracefulness while doing it all.

They practice for hours on end from the time they are little kids and they never get the big football or basketball money later. The more successful ones get some endorsements for a while and do some Skating Shows, but the big money goes elsewhere.

They have to love it to do it.

Re: some nice things to say about FIGURE SKATING
wow i've been in the ice rinks for many years and wondering why all these hockey players aren't figure skaters if they are so great. i see lots of little kids wiping out in hockey and none of them are even close to the skill(or the politeness) of the figure skating kids
the adults are just a lost cause. too full of themselves and with very fragile egos
