repeal the 17th admentment. Choosing senators should be a function of states, not the populace. As orinally planned, the states would have their interests represented separate from the general population. It would curtali 'unfunded mandates' and their use of tax dollars to enforce federal fiats

Recently I have heard some really good arguments for repeal of the 17th amendment, but I'm not convinced. The state legislatures were responsible for choosing our representation in Washington, and we were responsible for choosing them. Sounds like a less direct way of choosing, but it has some advantages. It was originally thought that state representatives were better suited to pick our national reps, and that might still be true. This is a very tough subject that should be studied in depth.
