they want alaska and its oil and think alaska still belongs to them and are probing canada airspace in a effort to find weakness to add in scenarios to wargame training in event they ever decide to take alaska and some parts of canada back ... that they view still belong to them

Russians do this all the time.

They aren't trying to attack. They are just seeing how far in they can get before detection and interception.

It's a nuclear attack exercise. Obviously the bombers would probably be shot down in a real scenario- the real threat would come from the Submarine launched nuclear warheads.

They're dry runs to ensure that all goes smoothly when they're no longer dry runs but actual bombing missions over the U.S. The more they do the more we get used to them and thus fail to assign to them the importance they deserve, thus improving the odds that the initiation of hostilities, when it occurs, is effectively a surprise.
