from the link...
"A pod of 101 pilot whales stranded on the same beach in 2007.

New Zealand has one of the world's highest rates of whale strandings, mainly during their migrations to and from Antarctic waters, one of which begins around September.

Since 1840, the Department of Conservation has recorded more than 5,000 strandings of whales and dolphins around the New Zealand coast. Scientists have not been able to determine why whales become stranded"

What the hell is wrong with these scientists? Why don't we ever get to see the necropsy reports when these things happen?

Why does New Zealand, have the world's highest rates of whale strandings?

What's going on in New Zealand to cause this? Navy Sonar, change in ocean temperatures & currents, dead zone, toxins, chemicals, pollutions? Why can't these scientists figure this out?

This is OK. More animals are looking to be going extinct. when a species goes extinct thats a good thing. means that species has graduated out of 3rd density.

These whales are being driven out of the water. If they could only communicate what they are feeling.

probably military playing with sonar in the area.

Appears a smaller species most easily pushed to return to water. They are however inland quite a few yards.

I still think sonar beaches most all species.
Then again I remain rather biased perhaps.

Could the equinox effect them naturally and no one noticed before ?
Has this ever occurred at New Zealand before now ?

DOC area manager Jonathan Maxwell said at least 25 of the animals were already dead when officials arrived at Spirits Bay, and another 15 had died by nightfall. In addition to the 40 still alive and stuck on the beach, another 50 were spotted just offshore, he said, though some of them had since beached.

Good Job getting this posted, Blessings.

all the wildlife, humans and planet struggling so, are they warning us? are "THEY" killing them? BOTH?

To be fair this beach has had whales beach themselves on it before, but they still don't know what causes it. It's sad they try to help each other and end up dying :(

Thanks too! hf

Very typical especially of pilot whales, you could probably put half of em back in the water and a large number of those would re beach themselves trying to link back up with the rest of the pod.

 Quoting: manycoloredcrow

Whales have beached throughout human history, so many strandings can be attributed to natural and environmental factors, such as rough weather, weakness due to old age or infection, difficulty giving birth, hunting too close to shore and navigation errors.

big quake coming this weekend . for sure
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1096217

Perhaps not this weekend, but if this is an indicator of an incoming quake, i'd say within a week or so. Same thing happened before the Christchurch earthquake.

This doesn't always happen before quakes, but in the 4 oto 5 years that I've been studying earthquakes and possible precursors, I've seen this a few times before a large quake hits nearby.

There is only one reason whales dolphins and other big species
jump out to the beaches, and its not sonars or something
human made

these animals are not stupid, they are the more clever,
they use language, as humans, and a simple noise even very strong canot drive them out of the water

the reason is very natural and simple..

something bigger is hunding them and they run out in land
from simple and clean Fear

something very common when bigger fish hund smaller

The Question is, What is so Big who can hund whales and
run them out to the beach?

Wow, that was a short interesting article...What have you done with EAT?!
Poor people do poor people things, and rich people do rich people things.

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

when you rob Paul to give to Peter ... ... ... you will always get Peters support!

i grew up in nz. near whangarei. as a kid i remember a number of pilot whale strandings around my area. one near my home had 5-6 die. also remember a larger whale that beached in bream bay.maybe a humpback,im not sure as i was quite young. i think they got a front end loader and buried it. these happend about 30-40 yrs ago. i think its a not too uncommon thing n nz.
