Anonymous Coward User ID: 1260647 Australia 02/09/2011 08:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The thing also to note is.. these "jellyfish" which arnt actually jellyfish in the traditional sense as the wikipedia article would also state.. they dont have ANY propulsion at all.. they blow about in the wind using their inflatable part.. so if millions of these little bastards wash up it means the current or the wind was strong and washed onshore we see thousands of these every summer in australia washing up on the beach.. they cant be counted as "dead" because they're pretty much just a floating stinging and eating machine.. they simply have no propulsion short of being able to deflate the bladder and sink.. that said i've popped thousands in my time and they didnt deflate none before the surfboard hit :) thread fail |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1198034 United States 02/09/2011 08:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | i agree with OP, if this case were isolated it wouldnt be a huge deal, but its the timing that makes this event intriguing. all these deaths happening now in the same general timespan is frightening to say the least... Quoting: Rager"this is all happening now...it's the sign of the end of the world...the signs are definitely here" I say one word: bullshit. There are two factors at play here. 1) Americans have a memory that goes back about 10 years. Anything from before that is ancient history. Stuff like this happened years ago, too, but no one remembers it. The 9/11 attacks is about as far back as anyone really remembers. 2) Animals have ALWAYS died like this, and the weather has ALWAYS been wild. If there was a massive fish dieoff in the Amazon in April 1822, would we here know about it? If a category 5 hurricane slammed into Australia in 1250, would we know? What about 1250BC, 1122, 865? No, no, no, and no. Just because the modern media has a global reach and allows you to hear about stories thousands of miles away does NOT mean that things are happening now that never happened before -- what it means is that we're *aware* (due to technological advancements) of what is going on now. Use some brain cells and THINK, people. |

I know this has been said before but I'll say it again. WHAT AREN'T they telling us. Sure there are scientists studying all of this, doing autopsies, and each appears random. But dots have to be connected and I'm sure they have already connected them. There just not saying. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1260647 Australia 02/09/2011 11:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | as such they have no propulsion of their own.. and they dont just "die" and wash up.. they wash up in heavy tides and currents weather they are alive or dead.. they have no choice now.. let this happen to jellyfish that do have self propulsion and can die and then wash up as a lifeless corpse then i'll get excited otherwise many people need to seriously look its not a mass death.. its a mass population growth.. the things spawn and live as sometimes colonies because they simply drifted towards eachother or were born that way attached there is no death here.. if a million of them washed up on the beach it means millions of the annoying little bastards had somewhat of a baby boomer moment k? |

nrg rambling User ID: 989174 United States 02/10/2011 12:45 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I conceived my first child while living on those very waters. Jelly's are a problem from the end of summer until spring on most beaches on the east coast. They are not known to be much good a swimming so a massive kill of jelly's just means more phosphates (man)Laundry soap, fertilizer causing algae blooms which throw off the ph and oxygen, making these pain in the asses abundant. Perhaps the bacteria in the region is creating too much oxygen in lue of the phosphates from the spill, time will tell. Much knashing of teeth it seems. I hope the beaches that the B.P. executives use in the south pacific are not so infested that their kids get stung too. And one day everyone woke up with the clear memory of all their past and future lives, Upon realizing that they had in fact lived them all at one point or another and had lived in both heaven and hell through out most of them, The Executives realized that hemp and sugarcane were indeed preferable to rampant greed and materialism. |

Was having drinks with friends (which is why I can't seem to string two words together that make sense this morning) and people started talking about the number of blue bottles they were seeing on the beaches. These are at beaches that I haven't been to lately - but thought it was interesting when the subject came up. Just passing it on... |

Seriously, there are people on this planet who think THEY are the height of cute, and other animals are just scum. That annoys me MILLIONFOLD. |
