The Sun Will Turn Into A "Ring Of Fire"

On December 26th, skywatchers in Saudi Arabia, southern India, and parts of Indonesia will see the Moon pass directly in front of the Sun,
creating an annular solar eclipse.

Regions seeing, at least, a partial eclipse: East in Europe, Much of Asia, North/West Australia, East in Africa, Pacific, Indian Ocean.

An annular solar eclipse is also known as a "Ring of Fire" solar eclipse. The eclipse will begin at 02:29 UTC on December 26, 2019. The maximum point will take place at 05:17 UTC, and the annularity will last for 3 minutes and 40 seconds. At maximum the Moon forms a 'black hole' in the center of the Sun.

During an annular solar eclipse, the Moon is farther away from Earth than during a total solar sclipse, so it appears smaller and doen't completely cover the Sun.

Be careful when looking directly at the eclipsed Sun. The ring of sunlight during annularity is blindingly bright. Even though as much as 94% of the Sun's disk will be covered, you still need to use a solar filter or some type of projection technique.

Could be real data, or could be equipment issues. For example, an anamy satellite could have it it with a laser. All this starwarz stuff going on now.

I used to watch the Sun 24/7, on 10 screens, for 5 years. Ive seen it do some weird stuff. Professors running around trying to look like they knew what it was. When no one was around they were emailing and calling all sorts of peeps.

THE ORIONID METEOR SHOWER: Earth is entering a stream of debris from Halley's Comet, source of the annual Orionid meteor shower. Forecasters expect the shower to peak on Oct. 21-22 with as many as 20 meteors per hour. The best time to look is during the hours before local sunrise when the constellation Orion is high in the sky.

A DOUBLE-GUST OF SOLAR WIND: Earth is about to get hit by solar wind--twice. Two streams of solar wind are heading our way. They're flowing from a pair of holes in the sun's atmosphere, shown in this extreme ultraviolet image from NASA's Solar Dynamic Observatory: [link to spaceweather.com (secure)]

The first blow is due on Oct. 21 when gaseous material arrives from the coronal hole on the right. It is expected to spark Arctic auroras, but probably not full-fledged geomagnetic storms. The wind from this hole is blowing ~500 km/s.

The second blow will fall on Oct. 24-25 when gaseous material arrives from the coronal hole on the left. This is a more potent stream, blowing ~700 km/s. It could cause G1-class geomagnetic storms and auroras in northern-tier US states from Maine to Washington.

They’re normal now Luis. If you look at the spaceweather.com page top left hand corner it lists the solar wind speed and right under that the proton density. Watch it regularly and you’ll be able to tell when it’s high. Watch on the 24th-25th when high speed coronal h9e stream comes flying in at about 700 km/sec.

So many things to whatch... geezzz!

Whoa. Wish some of the ole regulars were around to give their opinions on this.

There are no active regions on disk and X-ray flux is expected to remain at
background levels.

Around midnight a filament erupted from the South-Eastern quadrant as
visible in SDO/AIA 304 images. STEREOA/COR2 images (data up to 4:24 UT) do
not show a corresponding CME. We are awaiting further coronagraph images to
assess the eruption more properly.
There were otherwise no Earth-directed CME's detected in coronagraph
images.

Solar high energy proton fluxes were at background levels and are expected
to remain so.

Something caused density to spike bigly at 12 UTC on the 23rd. Love to know what does this.

THE SOLAR WIND HAS ARRIVED: Earth is entering a high-speed stream of solar wind flowing from the coronal hole described below. First contact with the stream caused an outburst of green auroras before daybreak in Alaska. So far, the gaseous material has not caused a full-fledged geomagnetic storm, but this could change in the hours ahead.
