If even ONE of these reactors melt down (as has already happened, whether TEPCO admits it or not) the rest are soon to follow - along with the other plant down the road, simply because the radiation will be too high for anyone to remain working there. We're still spraying water? Really?? These people are f-ing with the entire world's health. It's beyond infuriating.

All of the possibilities mentioned above in previous replies are there. Marines do not take missions lightly and will do the very best they can.

More than likely they have been assessing the situation for the last few days with real world news, not MSM or you tube videos and were given the orders to move out and help in some way. They may be there to protect our interests and give some advice and will do so only upon the GOJ request. I am sure the Japanese know what to do with their experts and help from other countries nuclear experts.

Since there are hundreds of nuclear generating facilities world wide with several designs going back years it is plausible to see that this should be a worldwide effort since it will affect everyone worldwide eventualy.

the chernobly solution comprised over 500 k volunteers to clean up the mess and dig a pit under the reactor to force in a concrete floor. this is simply not going to work at fucked in the ass shima , it will hit the water table and cause a glow in the dark steam volcanoe. you will hear about it sometime in august when tepco gets around to saying fuckedupshima now poses a serious risk to other countries

the japanese gov has previously refused foreign help obama was ready to send help the same day as quake

there are many special teams that have been ready since day 1 from many countries kan is just now starting to accept help. i know cause im here in japan and can speak and understand japanese and its all over the news everyday.
