NIHONophile User ID: 999878 Canada 05/29/2011 05:51 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Here is today's BREAKING NEWS from NHK - English: Fukushima prepares for heavy rain The operator of the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant is preparing for an approaching severe tropical storm by piling up sandbags and moving cranes to a safe place. Japan's Meteorological Agency says heavy rain is expected in the area around the power plant beginning on Sunday night. In some areas, torrential rain and strong wind are expected from Monday to Tuesday. Tokyo Electric Power Company is piling up sandbags around electric facility buildings and sealing the doors to keep rainwater out. The company says if rain and wind become intense, all operations except for patrolling will stop. The level of contaminated water in the turbine buildings of the Number 2 and 3 reactors and tunnels has been rising. The company says it will closely monitor the level to prevent contaminated water from overflowing and seeping into ground water and the sea. The utility is also studying ways to stop radioactive substances deposited on debris and buildings from being washed away by rain and flowing into the sea via gutters. Jordie User ID: 1405484 United States 05/29/2011 06:09 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Don't you all find it really spooky about this whole thing with Fukushima? I live here in San Francisco and there have been reports of high levels of radiation in the water, in the milk ect. Isn't it very strange that the government has stopped monitoring the amounts of radiation getting into this country? Then there is the very lack of reporting on the worlds media, or very little considering the gravity of the situation. It seems most of the industrial world and much of the third world governments have committed themselves to nuclear development, and probably a lot of the big big money interests in the world are behind it. I find the whole thing perilous and frightening in scope, and it seems all of us all over the world are in considerable danger. I would love to hear your opinions on this. What do you think? |

Now take a look at the pictures at this link: [link to pointscope01.jp] Especially 2011/05/29 11:00. It kind of looks like the source of at least some of the "fog" is the reactors themselves. Tokyo Electric Power (Tepco), which runs the plant, said some reactor buildings were uncovered, prompting fears the storm may carry radioactive material into the air and sea. Typhoon Songda is expected to hit mainland Japan as early as Monday. [link to www.bbc.co.uk] "Fight and you'll never survive..... Run and you'll never escape." |
