Many people are off on their vacations when they fly, hence why they wear summer stuff and when they are off on their vacations, I can categorically state that doom is the last thing most of them will be thinking of.

OMG! I know what you mean.....During the last big blackout, my wife was wearing flip flops in NYC!....her feet was bruised and cut from people stepping on her foot trying to get out of the subway. Since then she had a pair of sandals fall apart walking around, luckily I temporarily mended them with my leatherman tool and the wire bail from a Chinese takeout container.

True that... Think if there is an accident i probably want to have shoes on. Going somewhere warm change when u arrive, if there is a fire you dont want exposed skin, pants are smart. Most airline injuries happen when using the slide, broken ankles and large scrapes are common. Keep your situational awareness up when flying, better to be prepared

..always something steel-toed with superior ankle support.. any less and you = ..ground meat
..fresh moisture-wicking socks all the time make all the difference too

Not really sure how footwear helps when a plane hits a mountain, or involved in a mid-air collision, or comes down in the middle of the pacific.

Please explain, and give 1 solid example of an incident where footwear plaed a significant part.
