Well if you had a clue about ancient tribal rules you would understand these simple truths Rules were never created on how to assign tribal linage to someone without a physical father What we can go by is what happens during a divorce with the tribe members Mary was of Tribe of Judah, her husband was of tribe of Judah If Mary divorced and re-married man from the house of Levi, she would now become tribal linage, with her kids to Levi So with Mary and Joseph both from Judah by default any child from Mary is under the linage of Judah!! End of story You can not refute this!! But since Jesus Christ's true father was the Holy Spirit, not Joseph, then we must concentrate on Mary's lineage in order to show that Jesus was, in fact, a Judahite. If Mary is not a Judahite, then Christianity has a problem. Let's see if we can get to the bottom of this question. Going back to Matthew, we have this list of patriarchs: "Eliud was the father of Eleazar, Eleazar the father of Matthan, Matthan the father of Jacob; and Jacob was the father of Joseph the husband of Mary; of her was born Jesus who is called Christ." -- Verse 15 & 16. Since these lists do not contain the same names, many critics of Scripture have claimed that this is one of the famous instances where the Bible seems to contradict itself; but I do not think so. I think what the New Testament has recorded for us is the separate genealogies of Joseph and Mary, with Matthew giving us Joseph's descent and Luke giving us Mary's line of descent. The important fact is that BOTH are of the house of David and Judah. With both parent at home from Judah, the child living with them would only be from Judah, the child could be NO other tribe except Judah!! |
