Could YOU pass the 8th grade...in 1895???
Iīve only paroosed the test but I must say, the 8th grade graduates in 1895 had a much better grasp of the primary disciplines than the average CURRENT college grad.

No wonder we are doomed :)

I didnīt get as far as looking on the net for the definition of a "rod" let alone the actual size of an acre.
arithmatic #9.

I have a 160IQ, but thatīs based on current(20th century) testing standards...now I wonder.

I met a woman at a yoga class and she told me that she is a High School
teacher. I asked what she taught and she said Reading. I asked if there
were many kids in High School that were unable to read, she said I
wouldnīt believe how many couldnīt read.

I pass this along, and I wonder...are you reading this?

Could you pass this test?

they might not seem all that smart on the farm

but, they can vacinate animals without a medical degree, create a 100 yard ditch line with dynamite, and jerry rig damn near any electrical system necessary as well as maintain all the farm equipment

doubt 1-in-1000 college kids could do the same

78- good point.
but acre is a common term in banking too.
teaching may have originated on the family farm (home schooling LOL), but "higher education" has always ben associated with profit and afluence.

1083 -since the language has changed little (with the exception of slang..BLING) and mathmatics and history did not change in the timeframe...i would disagree.
I bet the 1895īers would have little problem with our current tests.

PULL YOUR HEAD OUT

pre 1895 history hasnīt changed, except in some history books, but being 110 years ago today we might struggle with it. if those students had to deal with todays history lessons i suppose they would struggle as well

basic mathematics have not changed since then but advanced mathematics have. and since most people now live in the cities and not on the farms the math tests would be quite different

probably the biggest issue is nobody back then had tv, video games and online gaming casinos to deal with. put them in our environment and it would be no different

This ītestī has been around forever...Above is just one example of why this is a farce and was made up by some pseudo-intellectual...

You canīt directly convert weight (of wheat) to bushels (volumetric measure)...It depends entirely on percentage of water content to detrmine the weight for a given volume...

A pound of īwetī wheat may take up a pint jar while 1 pound of 0% water content wheat may take up a gallon jug...

I guess I pass...

An aglet is the small plastic or fiber tube that binds the end of a shoelace (or similar cord) to prevent fraying and to allow the lace to be passed through an eyelet or other opening. This comes from the Latin word for "needle." The shoestring (string and shoe holes) was first invented in England in 1790 (first recorded date March 27). Before shoestrings, shoes were commonly fastened with buckles.

The Metre (original spelling) was defined by the French Academy of Sciences in 1791 as 10 to the -7 of the mridian of on quadrant of the Earth:

>>>"Thus, the meter was intended to equal 10-7 or one ten-millionth of the length of the meridian through Paris from pole to the equator. However, the first prototype was short by 0.2 millimeters because researchers miscalculated the flattening of the earth due to its rotation. Still this length became the standard."<<<

Trust me...In Kansas in 1895 they were not teaching īMetersī...

Re: Could YOU pass the 8th grade...in 1895???
Yes, I think they should have left that spelling intact...

Why change it from ´metre´ to ´meter´?

´meter´ is a musical term...referring to the speed of a piece..
It also refers to a measuring device eg ´gas meter´

I can see why the Americanisation of other words can be useful for conserving valuable space...
eg...dropping the ´u´ from colour, vapour etc.
and getting rid of silent ´h´s ..eg yoghurt

but changing metre to meter causes confusion

Do you guys really hate the French that much?

Standard wheat is dry at 14.5% moisture. It also weighs in at 60 pounds per bushel, industry standard.

Its a straightforward math question.

8th grade was todays equivalent of a bachelors degree .. the College extension was at that time a specialization ..

see chemistry and metalurgy, get 5fth grade 1912 chemistry book, from gunpowder to husbandry iron smithing to stomemason on todays term .

KEEP the masses as Idiots ,none of you can even make toiletpaper , in 1998 they teached how to make paper ,glue and pencils in third grade..
today you dont even make shit even using a computer ..

They got some of the prices wrong.

No way was board selling for $20 per meter. Thats goofy. Five cents a board foot would be more like it.

Also $15 seems too low for an acre of farm land but maybe not. Thats a 100 acre farm for $1500. Not unheard of.
