My dad donated a 60" HDTV to Goodwill
It was only a year old, nearly new in condition and he felt he didn't need it anymore so he donated it to Goodwill.

And not even in Christmas spirit or anything, he donated it months ago.

I simply don't have the words...

As long as he didn't replace it with another "bigger, better" idiot box, he probably did himself a huge favor.

You don't get it.

It's insanity to buy a $2,000 TV, only keep it for a year, and then GIVE IT AWAY FOR FREE!!

He used to be so frugal, I dunno wtf happened.

A Goodwill employee will keep that baby for himself. That is what I have witnessed countless times in dealing wiht "agencies" who are supposed to be helping the homeless, etc.

ALZHEIMERS?

NO, JUST KIDDING. ANOTHER RIP-OFF "CHARITY-CON". LIKE ALL THE BIG ONES, THE TAKE 90% OF THE MONEY AND GIVE A FEW PENNIES TO THE NEEDY TO KEEP THE SHAM GOING.

CANCER CURE -- BIGGEST CHARITY CON THERE IS

UNITED WAY -- CROOKED AS A DOG'S HIND LEG

PICK A DISEASE -- THERE'S A TEAM OF CON MEN BEHIND THE "CURE"

THAT'S THE WORST THING ABOUT LOSING THE BIG SCREEN.

I've heard of some old people giving away all their stuff until they literally had nothing left but one chair to sit on.

I can almost guarantee you that it wasn't ever sold.

One of the warehouse workers would have certainly swiped it.

$2,000 completely down the drain.

Well, I understand how you feel.

My father in-law ( good egg overall) had over $100.000 in his back account but wouldn't make a will. Family members pleaded with him to put his wishes in writing but he said he didn't care who got it and he was just as happy to allow the government to have it.

When he passed on the money went to probate court and we had to pay a nice chunk of change in lawyer fees to get the money to his daughter and his son.

It worked out ok in the end but I doubt it all went to where he would have liked it to go... but who knows, perhaps it did.

No...YOU don't get it.

I am making an allowance for the fact that maybe - just maybe - he had an epiphany, and realized the amount of time wasted on the couch watching the idiot box. Maybe he also now understands what television actually is, and consumption is in no way for his benefit. Something like this may spur a rational person into cutting off the needless distraction at the source.

Reference "Law of Opportunity Cost."

Just like the person who buys one last pack of cigarettes, and says "after this pack, I'll quit," what happens immediately afterwards is rather telling. Throwing away a half-empty pack would be a better immediate display of intent than purchasing one more pack of cigarettes before the the previous pack runs out, don't you think? If the man purchased another tv (or already had one in the old one's place) then, yes! It would be financially foolish if not recouped in April.
