A Spiker as the new Iowa GOP Chairman. Spiker, an ardent backer of Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul

After a vote of 9-8, the Iowa GOP central committee voted to elect A Spiker as the new Iowa GOP Chairman. Spiker, an ardent backer of Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul, won the position Saturday afternoon. A Spiker was also the state chair of Ron Paul’s 2012 Presidential campaign in Iowa, a state in which the Texas Congressman came in 3rd, less than 4 points from 1st.
The position had opened up after Matt Strawn, the former Iowa GOP State Chairman, had announced his resignation for February 10th. As a result of a miscount during the early January caucus and ballots being ignored at several precincts throughout the state, Strawn received severe criticism. As the state flipped from Mitt Romney to Rick Santorum after a recount, many in the Iowa Republican Party called for Strawn’s removal.
