The best thing any compassionate, sensible human can do is get to know oneself, share your home/life with an animal, and respect and appreciate nature.

Alone for every holiday, have been since I was 22. Whatever.

I WISH I could be alone.

I'll be alone and working out of town, so a hotel room and maybe mcdonald's. It gets a little depressing.

I'm alone every holiday. I usually go to work because it's closed and I can get a lot done with no distractions. There's nothing wrong with being alone.

If you were in my town I would invite you over.

There are few home less people on street corners bagging for change. Few people sleep behind s super market in my small town

I really want to bring them some hot food and a smoke, maybe next year.

You betcha. Will be heading to the casino tomorrow, along with all the other degenerates and losers. This excursion will be much more fun than sitting around the dinner table having trite and meaningless conversations, as people laugh a contrived laugh and wear a smile to mask their complete indifference.

There's a lot to be said for being alone on Thanksgiving. You wont be up all night cooking, or cooking all day tomorrow. I love leftover turkey, so I'll have to cook 2 birds. Everyone has a different schedule, so I'll be in the kitchen all day after being up 'till midnite baking pies. And of course, the house will have to be clean even while I'm cooking. And, to make matters worse, my wife wouldn't let me cook th 40 lb. tom that I've been taking care of constantly for months. He's a very nice bird, but he's still a turkey and tomorrow was supposed to be his big day. Now, I will be feeding him instead of eating him.

While smoking a turkey...if it thaws in time.

But I have a dysfunctional family and the holidays depress me greatly...

I usually end up going off to myself for an hour and crying my eyes out.

Only to emerge moments later all cheery and smiling.

Alone in hospital rehab facility - post heart attack, 2,700 miles from everyone I know.

They'll send something resembling food to me on a tray around 1:30 am.

Kinda depressed, don't have a phone in the room and can only make local calls anyway.

I work a bullshit retail job at night (8pm Thanksgiving eve opener) in addition to a daytime job. I yearn to be with my family, in fact I want nothing more for this holiday.

Longtime BF invited his parents over for dinner, because mine are 4+ hours away and I do not have the means or the hours available to travel and visit for the day . He gives me 1 day notice to shop and clean.

As I was scrubbing the floors today and cleaning up, I asked him if he was going to help out. He immediately realized he couldn't handle the pressure of cleaning + preparing a nice meal and being a good dinner host. Online games and TV shows are too important.

Proceeds to tell me I am a bitch because I ask for a little assistance with some housework that I, myself did not make plans for. He says he doesn't care if our apartment is a mess and it does not matter if I prepare anything for dinner. Calls his parents, tells them Thanksgiving is off because his GF (me) is too unstable to handle it.

In my honest opinion, if you are inviting someone over for a meaningful experience such as Thanksgiving, you should be prepared to help out, instead of criticize the one who will be doing the majority of the work.

All in all, this is a bullshit holiday excuse for corporate to make their paycheck off of your hard work. If you get this day off as a paid holiday, and do not need the hours to make ends meet, then good for you. If not, I am pulling for you, you and I are what makes this country run smoothly.
