They should be stocked with only the bare necessities like food (not SODA or CANDY), toilet paper, light bulbs, cleaning supplies, diapers, etc.

There should be absolutely no booze, no cigs, no tabloids, no vice products of any kind.

I don't understand how this wasn't the case from the get go.

I am not anti-welfare but what we have is just a free-for-all.

But this country is NOT beyond saving.

Simplify the tax code and close the loopholes. Reform welfare and hold recipients accountable. Stop "spreading freedom" at the point of a gun and encourage trade. Lead by example.

We've built sprawling cities and constructed engineering marvels. We've connected the world through IT. We've even landed on the Moon ffs, I think we can handle those three things. Don't you?

Actually that may be a thing they could or would require for all internet purchases.

I could give many more uses for that usage as well, but one way to retrieve more revenue for the states.

Like Detroit collapsing into bankruptcy and its declining self sufficiency.

We do not need to cause more division by making separate stores. You have no idea how many people you might not think are on EBT are.

A voucher system would be better IMO. Only allow certain items like you say. Like WIC.

What's it to you? What a horrible, hate-filled idea on so many levels. And then what? So you give them their own stores with approved items in it and then they hop on down to another store for their booze and tabloids. EBT is for food only, fyi. Mind your own business and get on with your own life.

Obviously you two don't live in reality. MANY welfare recipients use their benefits to purchase those things. I've seen it first hand. You are wrong, I am right.

One cannot purchase these items with E.B.T. cards. If they are getting a cash allowance they can get their money via ATM or cash back and the supermarket.

Of course they can use the cash to purchase anything.

Segregation? What an asinine suggestion. How about accountability.

It's not about keeping them out of certain stores. It's about them using the money they were GIVEN by people who WORKED hard for it in a responsible, accountable way.

If you're saying you can use you're EBT for those items you are wrong.

Now, they may have cash value on the card and that's different. Store owners that would accept SNAP benefits for anything other then food are breaking the law.

I don't think they would want the fines imposed and lose of license to accept EBT by doing that. In the hood some stores will do it if they know you.

First of all, stop being so nasty. YOU are wrong!!! Can you comprehend what I said? EBT cards can carry a cash balance along with the food balance, they are two different things.

They are using the cash part of the card, not the food. Look at the display pad at the store..the options: 1) EBT food or 2) EBT cash back.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

I agree no one should be using their cash assistance for those items but they are not getting them with food stamps.

Goodbye, halcyon days...

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.

There is another theory mentioned, which states that this has already happened.

Because that would be demeaning to the poooooooorrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just because the taxpayers work hard to see their money sucked away to pay for the moochers, doesn't mean that those moochers should feel thankful to said taxpayers. Uncle sugar gave them those bennies for their votes, they earned it!!!

I used to be a cashier at Walmart.

people on ebt can buy candy and gum, but they can't buy most of the things you complained about. they also can't buy most of the bare necessity items.

they have a finite amount of the money. the items ring up whether they are food or not. so, you didn't see what you thought you saw.

they might swipe a card and buy some things you think they should not. but if it isn't some type of human food, it does not come out of their food stamp money.

once iI checked out a woman who told me she got $38.00/month in food stamp money. (it was just her, living alone) once that $38 was spent, she was out of it. she wanted some chocolate, but decided not to get it because she wanted to save her money.

having stores for them would be more expensive than just letting them use their card wherever will take it.

the cash register knows food from not food, it is in your bar codes. check your receipt next time. it will show up no matter how you pay what is food and what is not.
