You look awfully comfortable and well fed in that picture. The ancient ascetics went to great lengths to impoverish themselves, fast from food and drink and live off what God provided from nature or handouts. Not everyone can go to the extremes, many are called few are chosen. Doesn't mean they'll be lost, maybe just go through a longer purification phase in the after life.
