Got plans enough, but the lack of money is indeed what's holding me back. Quoting: Yddap If we take a $100 budget, what would you buy? A weapon? Food? Water purifier? Contrary to what the "prepping" industry is trying to sell you, preparedness begins with learning and ends with knowledge. A knowledgeable person can call upon far more value than someone who has all the gear and no idea. If you seriously think your preps aren't up to scratch because you lack the resources, then pool resources with friends, family or neighbors. Many hands make light work. In other words - learn as much as you can (and practice it) and build a resilient community. You don't want to be some retard isolated in a castle on a hill. |

I would buy all 3. for a hundred bucks you should spend: 80 of it on white rice, will keep you alive for a few months or more of the real doom. for 5 bucks you could grab a gallon of bleach. A few drops will purify any decent water source and bleach has many other uses. I would spend the rest on a machete, they make a great weapon and serve many other uses also. As long as you can get to a stream or an outside water source near where you live the bleach will be fine and i would spend most of your first preps on food. weapons can be anything, use what you have handy. I want to talk to certain family members about this so at least there can be a loosely formed plan for us to survive should any doom scenario occur. Not sure how that will be received though. I'll find a way if things appear to ramp up. There are some dooms no amount of prepping can save us from, but who knows if they will occur in our lifetime or not This is all a joke!! |

Nice suggestion! I'd say lugol's iodine as a replacement for the bleach, has same ability to cleanse water, as well as cuts/infections and food poisoning. Heck, according to your poor-mans prep recommendation I'm set already. In fact I'm rich - I got two machetes Phew! : ] This is all a joke!! |

The first thing you should buy is a good survival book and read it front to back, that will give you a good understanding of the basics of surviving whatever doom comes your way. the SAS survival handbook is my favorite. then buy food, because the fist thing your not going to be able to get in a big disaster is food. Oh, and a cross bow - that's about the only legal thing here you can buy without registration. And indeed, knowledge will be key not to panic and stay calm. If you got a little more money to spend a two part water purification system with chlorine dioxide like Aquamira is my favorite. It will treat many gallons and doesnt leave that bleach or iodine taste in the water after. I use it for camping.. I dont think water filters are not really needed with the chemical options we have. The bleach will kill all the bad bugs also, and most people have it already in there house and its transportable. If you are short on money or just starting I would spend most of my extra cash on food till you stock up at least a years supply. Got a caravan-trailer in my front yard to tow and leave the city, but where can we go? Europe is significantly smaller than the US - and we're here with 600 million, so the chances to escape to somewhere quiet are pretty slim... |
