An active atmosphere may have muted the color also. OP - were the star actively "twinkling"? Quoting: OnTheFence Hmm... Sounds like a plausible possibility! I'm gonna have to research 'active atmosphere' now. :) Curious! And YES! They were twinkling like crazy! All kinds of rainbow colors going on with Capella, Arcturus, and Vega tonight. The atmosphere is in layers. I really don't remember what causes the layers to be active more than at other times. But when they are shifting, you get the twinkling effect of the stars. The layers are just reflecting (or is it refracting) the light from the stars ... hence the twinkling effect. I'm only guessing that an active atmosphere may also have altered the color of the fireball you saw. That you saw a red one and not really a pink one. I'm only guessing. Hmm... Interesting! Seems like a good guess to me. |

Quoting: Jinxy McDeath however, hearing of this extraordinary pink one is exciting. I can buy the theory that it was a weak red one too. Aww... Bummer. It was definitely a sight to behold! :) ... and it lasted for about 3 seconds, which is long compared the usual ones I see... which only last for like a second or less. |

The owner was with the dog when this happened. It could have been a prank, but the guy sounded legit. My point being, that it appears that animals may pick up on more than just sound, maybe some sort of pressure or something? Quoting: Vesper33 Anyway, here is the link. Gonna take my ass to bed. :) Can't wait to see what happens tomorrow night! This is the fourth night in a row that I've seen a shooting star. I'm beyond amazed. ^_^ And thankfully, I wasn't devoured by rabid forest animals... or redneck cannibals! Night all! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 46821775 I'm out side and it is a thick darkness all around me. I can't see the sky to good, stupid trees all up in my way. Calm night, chills run around my skin but still " I DON'T SEE SHIT" The only noice in the darkness is from up the road right next to the rail road tracks. I don't know what they are building but 2 days ago they started building something and they have a bright spot light set up and they have been working all day and night. They are sure making it hard to sleep and look for doom. Why are they working this late? Dont they know the goverment is shut down? Dont they know ison is up in the sky speeding around? Who the hell is paying them? Why right next to the rail road tracks? Well, I'm. Off to bed, no doom tonight! There's always another day to look and wait for the doom! |

It happens quit often, some wild animal is having a bad go at something and the rest of the wild world that is listening in have to give their two cents worth leading to a lot of noise and then wham...STFU. Kind of like what goes on with GLP...eh! |
??? User ID: 47659012 United States 10/01/2013 06:04 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Very cool description. I love it. Any more odd experiences out there? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 46821775 I live in the northeastern U.S.. About 4:45 am this morning (10/1), I was outside admiring the crystal clear skies and the billions of stars. (For whatever reason, they haven't been spraying our skies for the last few days and it has been beautiful, night and day.) Since I live right on the coast, I was looking east, but up. This is where it gets weird; I was looking at some patch of stars. They were not remarkable. They were not as bright as many others. They all appeared to be stationary and then one of them just...well...fell. It was in the sky like a regular star and then it began to slowly fall down toward the water line, away from its companion stars. We have had a few meteor doozies around here recently, and I had the opportunity to see a few of them...they were AWESOME! But this wasn't the same. Like I said, I was staring at that patch of stars for nearly a minute before that star moved. And when it began to fall, it didn't change color or increase in brightness or anything else. It just fell beyond the horizon, probably well beyond our atmosphere, perhaps millions of miles away. I don't know. I am still trying to figure out what I saw. After I watched it disappear, I kind of looked around at the sky in a panic, half expecting to see the other stars fall out of the sky. Nothing. No sound. No impact. No blaze of light. That star was just gone. |

Quoting: CuriousSoul So, I'm sitting out here in a field under a beautiful blanket of stars. Suddenly, I see a bright pink meteor shoot across the sky and break into two pieces before fading away. Most beautiful thing I've ever seen in the sky!!! Well, not long after I see the shooting star, I hear a strange animal sound start coming from the small patch of woods across the field. Never heard this sound before... almost sounded like a large crane-like bird, which we have those around here. Okay... then all at once, every dog in the area starts howling and barking like crazy for no apparent reason. Then, amidst all this craziness, an owl starts hooting loudly along with the other animals... then, I kid you not, a rooster starts clucking loudly from a neighborhood close by. All this hooting and hollering goes on for a good 5 mins, and then suddenly it stops. All I hear is crickets and your usual night sounds now. I have to say, my hair was standing on end, lol!!! I've never experienced anything like that before... slightly creepy, haha, but extremely intriguing. Well, just wanted to pass along this lil observation. :) I'll be outside for a while. Hoping I get to see more shooting stars! Opie's meteor was a fruit? A PINK meteor? There are biblical references to Pink Meteors... Supposedly they are connected to the Antichrist?! By the sounds of it, maybe it's true? Observe everything, trust no one and always follow the money! Don't look over there, look over here! I've a PhD and a telescope trust me!
