OHIO Right Now- Stores Unable To Process Food Stamps, System Down. CBS Admits It's Nationwide

CLEVELAND -- People wishing to use their food assistance benefits Saturday morning found out that the machines were down.

Burt Saltzman, with Dave's Super Market, tells our Channel 3 crew that the computer system has been having problems across the state of Ohio.

After card holders get through the line and swipe the card, an error indicates that the transaction was not approved.

WKYC has contacted the Ohio Department of Job and FamilyServices about the issue and have not received a comment.

Seen it several times this summer at more than one location.

First time was after the tornado we had here in Bellevue..I thought it was infrastructure damage at that time. But I have seen similar signs in market windows since then.

Yeah, I didn't think anything of it when I saw the sign at the store. It kinda raised a flag when I saw other reports in Ohio. It's probably nothing, but we all expect doom to come at any minute....

I have a store in MA and food stamps stopped processing about 1hr ago here. While we were trying to get it working a guy in line said it was like that all over town.

I have a friend in Mass. reporting its not working for her and another in Oklahoma.

According to the Cleveland report I posted earlier, some people are commenting that they are down in Michigan and Louisiana, too.

I think that would be big news. If it's true, we will find out soon, I would guess.

Is this a taster? it only needs to be shown that it can happen, even in a small area to cause a wide panic, while people might believe this is a technical problem it will reinforce the perception that it could be because of the shutdown and manipulating perception is, and always will be a powerful tool for those in charge.

this path we all tread is becoming very twisty.. and I am sure some bottoms will start to flap soon.

I have friends that get there credit on the first and they never got the credit for this month also heard from others that there's are not there yet either.when my buddy called they told him it was because of the shut down so who knows oh they live In toledo

Same thing in MI. I was in a grocery store and the cashiers just announced the system for food stamps went down....

I was using that ancient form of exchange...CASH!!

Reports are coming in across the state of Ohio Saturday that food stamp machines are not working.
NewsChannel 5 has received several phone calls from Ohio Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card users who said their food stamp cards are not working at grocery stores. When they attempt to make a transaction, an error appears and stating the transaction was not approved.

Maybe I'm just panicky but this bugs me. It's not just one state. Grocery here in central ohio made an announcement over the loudpeaker. EBT transaction can't be processed. That was about 2 hours ago.

based on twitter, people are already ready to riot! Glad I live in the country...

Supposedly it's nationwide now. Each state is given a different reason. People with huge carts of groceries are having to leave them.

err is it just me or are you holding a conversation with yourself, if so carry on. I'm all for SNAP, I never have had food stamps never been on SS never unemployment ect but for the real working ppl that need it I feel for them all, the rest bottom suckers starve! You know who you are. I keep running the scenario to my fellow workers (sheeple) e.g. "just think about this dudes, everyone is lined up at Chinamart in Chicongo lets just say, waiting for 0001 (1201am)so their food card charges back up, they go check out with their steaks and lobster and other high end food items in their carts and "sorry ma'am it didnt go through!") how quickly do you think that shit is going to run before looting occurs?, minutes maybe? oh yea @ that point "IT" has begun. I WELCOME IT!!
