SpaceX Falcon 9 Launch @ 5:41 PM EST (LIVE FEED)

This is the third attempt to launch. The engines didn't come up to thrust on Thanksgiving day and the computer aborted the launch.

Yes, this is a big launch. Currently all communication satellites are launched by Russia or ESA.

SpaceX is attempting to enter that market today. These are very expensive satellites and SES took

a big risk launching on an unproven rocket (Falcon 9 v1.1)

Caught what I thought were awesome pictures of an ISON fragment. Turns out it was SES-8.

And here is the video. SpaceX is reporting successful spacecraft separation. Congrat's to SpaceX for making it look easy on the 3rd attempt.

I thought it was a failed launch, but that must be a picture of boosters falling off? Didn't know that rockets had boosters that visible. Shuttle launches never had boosters falling like that...

Flight Update

Spacecraft separation confirmed! SES-8 is now in its targeted GEO transfer orbit.

Your picture is the flip side of my picture! ;-) Mine is from south of the launch and yours is from the North - WOW you are WAY north and still have quite a view - compared to you I am practically on top of the launch site, but my picture doesn't look that much bigger!

I'll be in Jacksonville for work next week! Nice town - I'm there 3 times a year...

Nice! Thanks. Will be in Jacksonville for Christmas. Hope to shoot down to Cape Canavral for the Thaicom 6 launch.

The real exciting launch is coming in February. The first stage will drop off flip around and

return to the launch site and land. That will be AMAZING.

Speaking of weird photos of Florida Skies - took this picture about 9 months ago - nothing natural could have done that - only man-made interference… I was in Indian Harbour Beach, FL when the picture was taken.
