Billionaire boom as the richest get richer

At the start of the year it is time to take stock of who has got the most money – and it seems the trend continues of the world’s richest people getting richer.

The top 300 wealthiest increased their net worth by close to 400 billion euros in 2013, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Bill Gates retook the number one spot with a fortune the equivalent of 57 billion euros.

Shares of Microsoft, the software company he founded, rose 40 percent during the year, though they account for only about a quarter of his total investments.
