MPG fluctuations in vehicles..
I was wondering if, anyone is having fluctuations with their vehicle's mpg..I take the same route daily & have noticed some days my car burns more than others..I normaly get 40mpg on the highway & I am not getting this anymore..

This just started happening in the past couple of months..My car is kept up with oil changes,etc...so, I know it's not because I don't take car of my car. I haven't done anything different..Could it be haarp or ? causing this?

Get a tune up, run some seafoam through the engine. Clean out all that gooey corn syrup they call gasoline.

Re: MPG fluctuations in vehicles..
In winter any car is going to get worse gas mileage. Most cars today have preheating settings to get the engine temperature up faster. Small aluminum engines lose a lot of heat at idle and low speeds so they burn more gas in winter.

Think beyond impossible.

Re: MPG fluctuations in vehicles..
What about the weather?

If you live anywhere that gets below 40 deg. F or so at night, morning drives especially will use more gas.

The lower the temperature, the higher the fuel:air ratio needed for combustion. Even after the engine is completely warmed up to operating temperature, intake air that is very cold is going to affect your MPG.

Re: MPG fluctuations in vehicles..
You could put a higher temp thermostat in the engine to make it run warmer during the colder months.

I have a little Honda Civic..would that work on that type of car? and.. I also live wayyyy down south in Louisiana. It "normally" doesn't get very cold down here..Some winters, I've run around in shorts and flip-flops because it hadn't gotten that cold here.. I've never had this happen before in all the cars/trucks I've owned through the years so, I was kinda confused on why this just started happening..

Thanks everyone, for the responses! hugs

When I ran a delivery business we notice that where you bought your gas effected your mileage.
Do you go to the same station all the time?

YES! :)

ahhhhh...maybe I could try a different station to see if, that may be the problem. Idea's on what gas producer has the best mpg fuel for your car? I use Exxon-Mobil, being it's just down the road from my home & not outta the way.. Maybe, Shell or ?

How old is it? I'd start with new plugs, then wires. Clean up the fuel system with seafoam. If that didn't work I'd go for the thermostat. If that doesn't work then it's something outside the engine that has changed.

I have an '05

I read up on the net about all the different older cars under 10 yrs. old before buying the one I got from the Honda dealership..I didn't want a newer car with all the electronic crap in it.. Also, it only had 42,000 miles when I bought it early, last year..literally, in brand new condition you could say..

An elderly grandma had the car before me. She had only put about 5k miles a year on it..That's why I jumped at buying it & at a great price to boot!
