L'Equipe News Article Proves To be Prescient: Olympic Skating Scandal | |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 22347512 United States 02/17/2014 08:14 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The French magazine L'Equipe went to press with this story on 8 February and it was picked up as an also-ran by various international news sources. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22347512 "The French magazine L’Equipe is reporting that the fix is in and that Canada’s Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir cannot win in ice dance as a result. The United States is not a contender to win the team title, while Russia is. Russia does not have someone who can win ice dance, while the United States has Meryl Davis and Charlie White. The story in L’Equipe reports that the U.S. would support Russia in the team event, while in turn the Russians would ensure Davis and White toppled the Canadian duo of Virtue and Moir." [link to www.thestar.com] The same story appeared in US papers, also on 8 February. [link to www.washingtonpost.com] [link to www.usatoday.com] Now that the Ice Dancing competition is over, we have the official Ice Dancing results for both events: Team Event 1. Russia 2. Canada 3. United States Pair event 1. Davis & White (USA) 2. Virtue & Moir (CAN) 3. Ilinykh & Katsalapov (RUS) These are the same results predicted by L'Equipe back nine days ago. An interesting Olympic development for sure. I guess sometimes gold tarnishes, too? Edited for grammar & format. |

An interesting Olympics development for sure. I guess sometimes gold tarnishes, too? If there is any basis to these allegations — and the results seem to lend them some credibility — then one must ask why would certain parties wish to fix this particular event. And that question leads us to 'artistic component' of the pair event which featured some very specific arcane symbolism. Oh well, I guess I should have posted this on an actual conspiracy forum. |

'We have great respect for Meryl and Charlie and it's been an interesting relationship over the years,' she said. 'We weren't really competing against them. We're competing against the system. We were doing our job, they were doing theirs and it came down to preference and we don't hold any bitterness against them at all.'" So it's good all around, apparently! But I repeat myself. |

I'm sure the hosers were handed some shekels in an envelope to grease the wheels. Just desserts taste really good when you wash them down with thirty pieces of silver. The nose knows. |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 22347512 United States 02/17/2014 10:28 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm not watching any of these events. Anti-Olympics. Quoting: Purgatory However, I am struck by your phrase "arcane symbolism" in these team skates. So what were the creative themes in the top contenders' programs? If you have time, respond please. Personally, I enjoy the Winter Olympics if for no other reason than its celebration of the physical acumen of the participating athletes. But this juicy story has been getting the major gloss-over in the English-speaking press. As far as the symbolism, why disseminate other groups ideological bullshit for them? More interesting is the fact that these allegations were reported on 7-8 February and now the results in both events line up precisely as predicted. I'll leave the analysis to everyone else. |

Here's part of the reporting trail from 7–8 February (again), along with the original article in French paired with two articles from the Canadian press. [link to www.lequipe.fr] [link to www.canada.com] [link to www.thespec.com] I hate to see the athletes' reputations suffer from the backroom dealings of their handlers. Their physical talents and mental discipline are undeniable, but this sort of thing always casts a big shadow over the events themselves. That's all I have to offer on this topic. |
