A Queensland man who was bitten by Australia's deadliest snake calmly reached for a cold beer and sat down to wait for an ambulance. Quoting: [link to www.dailymail.co.uk] Rod Sommerville, 54, was bitten on the finger by an eastern brown snake – the world’s second most venomous snake – while working in his garden in Yeppoon, Central Queensland. But it’s what happened next that would impress even the toughest survivalists. Mr Sommerville hit the snake over the head with his shovel and called himself an ambulance. He then grabbed a cold beer from the fridge and quietly waited for help to arrive, according to the New Zealand Herald. [link to i.dailymail.co.uk] Mr Sommerville’s teenage son was asleep on the couch at the time, but slept through the entire ordeal because his dad didn’t want to bother him. 'If you panic, it makes it worse,' Mr Sommerville told the Rockhampton Morning Bulletin. 'I said to myself, if I'm going to cark it (die) I'm going to have a beer, so I got a Goldie (Australian beer XXXX Gold) out of the fridge and drank that.' Aussies are tough and cool...but how is this different than any other day on the Cape Fear River and it's residents??? |

Well, it is also because any country Aussie knows that snake venom travels through the lymphatic system, NOT the circulatory system. Which means that ANY movement of the body spreads the venom. A compression bandage will limit it much further. Whether he knew it or not, he probably saved his own life by not running around. On top of that, the snake does not always inject venom, and on top of that, most of our snakes have grooved fangs, meaning the venom travels on the outside of the tooth, and gets absorbed into clothing etc. Mind you, our snakes compensate for smaller dosages by having fucking strong venom when measured drop for drop. Most people I know are more afraid of taipans than eastern browns. They are very aggressive in some seasons, and can coil up and spring three times their body length. That means a small one, say 6 foot, can spring 18' through the air. They are hollow fanged, and bite multiple times. Within minutes you start urinating out your own muscle tissue, as it dissolves thanks to the quick acting venom. A full grown taipan can easily knock a big bloke to the ground while biting him repeatedly. Eastern browns get out of the way, mostly, or unless you step on one, in which case, it was your fucking unlucky day. |

The 1 million pound question is: What a BRIT man would do in a situation like that??? Quoting: Vegemite Joe 51291464 Brit men would probably scream like little girls, reach for a tea and be beaten by their wives for letting snakes crawl in their garden. Through tea and crumpets at the snake lol!!! |
