Why did Jesus pick greedy tax collector Mathew to be an apostle, wasn't he supposed to pick the pure in heart?

so OP ? where is it written that Mathew was GREEDY ?
seems he was more like their bookkeeper-he needed a job and got a job.

No, you are right DGN, tax collectors WERE considered sinners, as most were greedy, though whether Matthew was or not is not disclosed, but the point is that Christ read the heart of even sinners.....of which each and every one of us are "15 Faithful and deserving of full acceptance is the saying that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.
