I think Kerry is only tough talking with the World War because of Ukraine. I don't think he is intending to threaten Putin or Russia with war. I think Kerry is warning that if Ukrainian forces start defending against Russia other nations could get drawn into the conflict unwillingly. Major difference between threatening someone and warning them.

However, 95% of Crimea wants to be with Russia. And seeing what happened in Kiev. No one wants to see that happen again. I think the EU and US did not understand the demographic makeup of the protesters included a minority of fascists and neo-Nazis who pushed this protest to armed conflict. Muzychko, a Ukrainian neo-Nazi and ethnic Russian hater fought alongside Chechnyan rebels.


I visited Kiev a few years ago, and didn't see a difference between Ukrainians and Russians and I don't enjoy seeing a beautiful country divided that once lived in peace. But then I also never saw people like Muzychko, and had no idea that some Ukrainians fought alongside Chechnyan rebels.

Its understandable after Beslan and the Moscow theater siege, along with recent bus bombings that Crimean Russians want protection from Russia against people like Muzychko, their own countrymen, by becoming part of Russia. I think Kerry understands that.

But what if Ukrainian forces fight back? That's the major question. Will they leave Crimea peacefully?

If they fight, other nations might be drawn into the conflict because of pre-existing defense treaties. The US is pledged to protect Ukraine, as is China.

If they choose not to fight Russia, then this will issue will die quietly over the years and Crimea will be part of Russia. But what if eastern Russia decides to go with Russia?

Where I live almost nobody has cable, they do it all on the internet. I listen to radio online, but not local radio. If something were to happen I wouldn't know unless there were air raid sirens (and I don't think we have them, even though we do get tornados)

Hi Russian. Just want to say Obama does not speak for the citizens of America. I love you just as many other Americans do. But should war come I'd be more than happy to embrace you in conflict. Our leader is a maniac and I'll die because Americans didn't stand up to evil as Russia is doing now. May you live long and enjoy what's left of this world.

THat video could have been filmed anywhere thats snowy, overdubbed, and re-released. To believe it is to only take OP's word that it is the truth. Which it could be! There is just no way of confirming it (from the video alone).

I forgot to add that we are all good friends together, we have campfires in the states and debate systems and technology, we fly and sail together, nationality means little when we are together, just everybody speaking english with a different acent ;)

We have blackcurrants, raspberries, some field strawberries, apples, cucumbers, cherries, potatoes, pumpkins, herbs, garlics, tomatoes (Le Gasp!), onions, wild cats and my favorite - gooseberries! Otherwise our food bill would be hard to foot. Once the snow is gone it's back to plowing, seeding and building a greenhouse out of plastic tarp and metal supports for me!

We have a chemical plant nearby who uses all sorts of interesting elements from mister Mendeleev's Periodic Table. As well as a wastewater treatmant and aeration plant that uses huge and very lethal amounts of chlorine. My Grandmother, who worked at the plant in the 1940-1980'ies told me that they used to have regular drills in case something sprung a leak. Now we don't even have any information sheets of the hazardous materials on site.

Thankfully I know Norwegian already, and English. I'd hate to see our so far mostly safe environment spiral out of control. I like to think my stormchase - related skills would come to good use here.

Sounds silly I know, but ultimately I wish to have an impact on people's lives in the severe weather season here, maybe even save some. The least I could do is keep hammering away and informing local people of all the dangers we face.

If anything happens you will get a warning on your iPhones first. No joke. There are enough people with iphones that even if you don't have one, when the warning goes out, everyone will hear about it. Air raid sirens as well as emergency broadcasts.

Russians are the most level headed and practical people I have ever met, I dont know if its the history of bs control systems your nation had endured in the past, but nothing can cut through all the bullshit and get to the heart of the matter like russians do.

Americans are big dreamers, the sort that you wont find any place else.. they have amazing capacity to visualize a far fetched concept that nobody else would ever even try.. and then the do it big and badass. Even their police state sets the standard against which everybody else tries to catch up to.

Americans will someday develop the technology needed to reach the stars.. russians will build an actual bases and testfly the systems... crew 10 year endurance missions.. and when they return with the data, asians will mass produce the ships like sausages on an assembly line.

it would be the fuckin adventure of the species. . As long as the sirens stay silent.

I only two days ago made a very hearty beet soup or borscht. Your garden looks so delightful and the birds are a great sign of spring. I was thinking the same thing. Even though two of Ontario's power plants are close enough by me, we don't have any air raid sirens. With never watching TV and and rarely listening to local radio we would be screwed lol.

Listening to those sirens was very eery. That would have totally freaked me out!

Unless they institute a mobilisation here as well and I would get drafted. If things get even worse, me as a conscript would be sent to the front. Both Russia and the U.S. know that our citizens have no ill feelings towards each other. We're living in a connected world now. Our knowledge of people across the globe isn't only from what the news or government tells us anymore. We have the internet and now know that the average Russian man and woman doesn't sit there in the snow drinking vodka non stop planning on how to kill Americans. I imagine there are older stereotypes of Americans from the cold war that Russians now see were also BS.

Now both governments have to go into overtime to demonize the other country and it's citizens.

Those air raid sirens will become more frequent. They'll be blamed on suspicious movements by the "enemy". They'll continue until the population are ready to attack on their own.

We are all afraid of the crazy buggers in power all over the world- one world, one fear!

I love this statement, it's so very... human :) Wish more people could see it this way. Reminds me of the "Live from Space" show where the astronauts on the ISS said there were no borders up there.

These are sad times, humanity has cancer, cutting it out will nearly kill us all, not doing anything will likely have the same result. Truly sad.
