Do you trust them not to test drugs on them? It also eliminates one aspect of free will. If kids aren't taught to make their own decisions, even with simple things like food, they'll be more easily enslaved when they're adults. |

I might pack my kids' lunch and feed them breakfast before they leave. Unless TN is that one state where that's illegal. Seriously, be careful. The message did say everyone will have to fill out a household survey....whatever the hell that means.... My Son will be taking his lunch! |

You are right. schools want to do 2 things: make home-packed lunches a thing of the past. remove any stigma of getting "free" lunches by giving "free" lunches and breakfasts to EVERYBODY. so you stigmatize the kids whose parents are "stupid" enough to pack a lunch - the kids will do that for them - and then you say no food from home. It is already forbidden to bring food for birthdays etc that is baked at home. I know this first hand. It is a demonization of any food made at home, and it is making government food the ONLY choice. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6164778 The real danger with this is they can feed your kids anything. Do you trust them not to test drugs on them? It also eliminates one aspect of free will. If kids aren't taught to make their own decisions, even with simple things like food, they'll be more easily enslaved when they're adults. [link to www2.gwu.edu] In another set of experiments which came to light in late Quoting: From The Link Above1993, at the Fernald School in Massachusetts during the 1940s and 50s, schoolboys classified as mentally retarded were fed radioactive calcium and iron with their breakfast meals. Yet parents of these children were deceived about the nature of the experiments when they gave their consent. With at least one experiment, the letter from the School requesting consent never mentioned that radioactive material would be fed, noted that experimental subjects were selected from a "group of our brighter patients," and implied that the experiment might result in "gains in weight and other improvements." These experiments were funded by the Atomic Energy Commission, the National Institutes of Health, and the Quaker Oats Company, and research was conducted by faculty at MIT and Harvard. These experiments clearly fit within the scope of the documents that I requested from the Department of Energy in the mid-1980s, yet they were not reported then. With the revelation of the Fernald School experiments, I began to question whether we know the full scope of human experimentation; whether the 1986 staff report provided a reasonably accurate picture or whether the extent of testing was larger. |

It was was a "violation of the states nutrition standards". They were also told if they continued to do so, an investigation would be opened with DFS because they are neglecting their child's nutritional needs, that the school can provide. (All this started because the kid brought gluten free crackers because they suffered from celiac disease) “It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.” - Aristotle |

The school system is nice enough to take over 2 meals a day. What a relief huh? They'll just feed our children what they think is best to them for us. So glad I homeschool. Id be checking that menu. Are you allowed to pack lunches anyway? Probably going to say due to peanut allergies or something that you can't. |

I'm in Chattanooga TN area Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1313288 There are several districts here as well that are going to a free lunch for everyone. I don't care my kids are still taking a lunch. I'm not filling out a survey, they can kiss it. They tried to implement the hand scanners a few years back, when a bunch of kids started taking their lunch, my district started losing its ass. They discontinued using the scanners as a result of ongoing pressure. Wonder how much money that wasted? |

I'm just glad that kids that go without, because their parents can't fill out paperwork for the free lunch, can eat. Plus there will be less stigma for kids that have to get free lunch. edit, I don't have to fill out a survey. They even refunded the money for lunch I overpaid for one of my kids. I don't think it's a bad thing to lessen the feelings of inadequacy some of the kids may have because of the parents. Plus what about the kids that don't have the paperwork filled out for the free lunch and nobody is packing anything for them at home? Those are the kids that need this more than anything. Lunch ladies have been fired for feeding hungry kids without money. As far as packed lunches, I've never had a problem with one of my kids, I pack for her most days. And if we do bring in food, it just has to be in it's original package, nothing homemade. The teacher can bring in homemade food though, one of her teachers made a birthday cake for all the kids in her class because some kids don't even have that at home for their birthdays.
