This is not unprecedented as you can see below. But it is not common either. Flashback: August 1992 - Montana Snow'But snow in August even at lower elevations is not unheard of -- check out this video we dug out of the archives from August 22-23 of 1992.
Great Falls got a total of 8.3" of snow; more than two inches fell on August 22, and another six inches of snow fell on August 23.
The high temperature in Great Falls on August 22, 1992 ,was 39 degrees, and the low was 32 degrees....' [ link to www.krtv.com]
