I'd rather poison my scalp with chemicals than feel like a hippie. Although I did try BC powder mixed in with my poo to treat itchy scalp one time. It worked. But I felt like a hippie so I stopped. I thought I smelled patchouli and hemp after that and I was terrified for weeks. Couldn't sleep. |

Quoting: CowgirlK I know it sounds really crazy to not shampoo your hair with traditional products (shampoo and conditioner) but it really works. I didn't want to post anything until I tried it myself but I have been "Poo" free for 2 months now and I can say going poo free might have been one of the best decision I have ever made in my life. Let me preface this story with I have long hair. Really LONG hair, past my butt which I keep tied up in a sexy bun. I've spent lots of money on shampoo and conditioner in my life. I use 1/3 a bottle of conditioner ever time I wash my hair just to get the knots out. But not any more. Now I pour baking soda into a cup that I mix with water and create a slurry which I pour onto my roots. I scrub my hair as if I had shampoo in my hair...scrub, scrub, and rinse. It feels very weird but it works. My hair ends up squeaky clean. Then I mix apple cider vinegar with water, pour it over my hair, comb through and rinse. After my personal experiment I can say my hair has never felt so clean and soft in my life. And I'm not using any chemicals that are harming my body. My hair is healthier and more beautiful than ever. Has anyone else gone poo free? The first month it looked like my head blew up. My hair settled down and I noticed some things. My hair has a natural wave that showed up after using the ACV for a while because there was no residue weighing it down. My hair is much shinier. I can go longer between washes because the residue isn't attracting dirt. BTW: I use a spray bottle to apply the ACV. Less waste and more even coverage. Just don't get it in your eyes! |

(this is also you soap) Both of these things are super cheap to buy and are amazingly effective. 1/8th cup per gallon water on both does the trick. |

I heard that castor oil thickens your hair. has anyone tried this? Give the baking soda/vinegar a try. PLEASE Don't do castor oil. When I was in my 20's I saw an old woman with the most beautiful white hair I had ever seen in my life. I asked her what her beauty secret was. She said she conditioned her hair with bacon grease. So I cooked up a pound of bacon, poured the grease in my hair, put a towel on my head and slept with the grease in my hair over night. I tried to wash the bacon grease out the next day without much success. Not only was my hair a stringy mess for weeks after the bacon experiment, buy creepy guys kept asking me out on dates because all men love the smell of bacon..lol Take it from a woman who has had long hair beautiful hair all of her life and has tried lots of crazy hair experiments, the baking soda/vinegar thing is amazing. I haven't used shampoo in many years hair is almost to my thighs now. You have me curious about the vinegar rinse would probably do me some good because I have well water thats pretty hard. I don't do baking soda but I just use conditioner. Cheapy one for the first that I "wash" with and then a thicker more expensive one for the last. Works like a charm and my family thinks I'm crazy lol. None of them have long hair to deal with though. I'm afraid the baking soda would dry my hair out like straw because my hair just soaks up the right conditioners. |
