is it a pain to detangle? or does the vinegar help with that? my hair gets really knotty too and I also have long hair.
 Quoting: eekers

It is unbelievable.. NO KNOTS! I have used tons of very expensive conditioner for years and have always fought with knots because I have baby fine hair. The cider vinegar takes all the knots away. I freaked out the first time I tried it because I couldn't believe that vinegar could remove the tangles. Amazing...

detox the body, eat high alkaline diet (raw fruit veg greens) and groom your hair when feel to do it, you dont have to wash hair as it self regulates (takes few months to transition)
aka- just as other animals do
works for me, ive long hair, and male
my hair has become a kinda barometer that tells me if i need to cleanse, or move away from toxic enviro when it starts to go weird

Hey K, hugs.. nice thread! And that long hair of yours, pictures it and faints!

I just got back from the barber and I asked him about what you said with vinegar and baking soda vs shampoo and he said: "Well, she is right you know. But personally I benefit more from female body juices."

I know, I see you frown K, just as I did and I said to him: "My God. How can you say that?? Besides, you are completely bald!" He looked at me and said: "True, true! But have you seen my beautiful moustache?"

Sorry, couldn't resist, lol.

Eekers, with long hair...more vinegar is better. In the video I posted the woman used like a table spoon of vinegar. I use about a cup and add it to water. I soak my hair in the cup, then pour it over my head, brush it through in the shower, then rinse.

My hair is so soft and shiny..granted I have virgin hair (never been dyed) but its still amazing. The secret is in the vinegar. You will need to adjust the amount depending on if your hair has been colored/permed etc.

Mess around with the baking soda and vinegar until you figure out what works for you. It takes a few weeks to figure it all out but once you do..you will never go back to shampoo and conditioner again.

LOL...Hugs across the water to you my dear friend. Put some vinegar on that mustache when you wash your face to keep it soft. The women will love your for it!

Its WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY past my bed time so I need to bid adieu for now. I'll check in later after I've had a few hours of much needed rest. Have a great day at work and try to stay out of trouble.

my doctor told me to not use any shampoo or conditioner (I have skin problems). For the last 1-2 months I am "poo" free and I feel just fine. But my hair is a bit hard, so I might try your advice.

Old Spice 8hr shower gel.....Pure Sport. Men sweat and stink more than women so we need stronger shit. Also made me think about something.......I can take a shower and get on my bike and go to the end of the road and back and I smell like a dog when I get back. No sweating or anything. I was talking to my mom about this and she says it's the air. The air is bad and your clothes act like a filter....damn it stinks....lol.

Re: Have you tried "No Poo'?
No shampoo makes me look like Witchy Poo. I do not need fluffy hair. I have done the baking soda/ACV on hair short and long.

It works for some people, for others it doesn't. Mine is waist length, thick and somewhere between fine and not. It's dry when left to its own devices, and usually looks like shit unless I follow the same beauty routine I've done for a couple of years now.

I don't like the look of the no shampoo. To me the afters look worse, and I don't want to do it to my own hair again. It took a few years to get it back to being manageable.

When I did it, I did it for about a 4 months. At the end of it, I found out that I have curly hair on the top layer and straight under that. It was soft at first, but it was prone to terrible split ends (I started out with waist length hair and had to get a Sinead O'Connor at the end of it). Even though I used a natural brush that was made to encourage the oil distribution, I never could get enough of it in my hair.

I added hot oil treatments about 3 months in, and did them 2-3 times a week.

My hair got brittle, dry and I developed a dry scalp. It felt like I had fried it with over dyeing.

I'm glad it works for you and you're a follower. Just be aware that for others it may not work like everyone says it does.

Since we are near the topic of your hair near your ass, as you put it... have you ever accidentally shit on your own hair?

I've often wondered about you long haired ladies.

But since you've been doing "experiments" with hair care, a more pertinent question is: have you ever crapped on your own hair *on purpose*??

I got the shaker can of baking soda and put it on roots in the shower.

Scrub and rinse.

My hair felt softer and stronger.

But I still did conditioner on the long ends.

Used vinegar rinse as a kid.

Gonna try it again.

Did no poo for two months then Went back to shampoo for some reason.

Definitely stock up baking soda shaker for power downs. Rinses with less water and does clean.

I went no poo for 3 months.

It went well, its a tough adjustment and takes a few weeks to notice results... my hair didn't stink and if it did I would use baking soda. Hair was generally more manageable and had a healthy shine...

I ended up using poo out of curiosity and it really messed up my hair. Now I use only cold water and occasionally I'll poo it.

Re: Have you tried "No Poo'?
I used the no-poo method for several months on my long hair. My hair is down to the middle of my back with layer. I have fairly thick brunette hair.

I loved the no-poo method and my hair felt amazing. My only complaint is that I think the vinegar (Braggs ACV with the Mother) stripped the color a bit. It brought out a lot of natural red highlights in my hair. And, it is challenging to use while traveling unless prepared. I became lazy and returned to expensive organic shampoos. :(

I do use all natural products on my body. I have used rock salt for deodorant for 15 years. I make my own facial tonics (witch hazel and rose water with peppermint eo)french green clay facial masks, and only use sweet almond oil, jojoba or a coconut sugar scrub on my skin that I make myself. I suppose it could be debated that skin, being our largest organ, absorbs the sugar, but IDK. I'm also grain free and sugar free for over 6 months and it made my nice hair, nicer when my diet changed. Not to mention that I'm constantly told that I look 12-15 years younger than I actually am.

I may return to the no-poo method. I never noticed a vinegar scent once my hair dried... btw. Just clean smelling, full hair.

LOL-I thought this thread was about the new product by DevaCurl called 'No Poo' (non lathering all natural shampoo).

To the poster using 1/3 bottle of cream rinse on her long hair, try a Biolage brand cream rinse. Use a dime size amount to detangle any length hair.

Been no poo for almost three years now and I wouldn't go back. What is funny is that I always thought I had fine, thin hair, well without shampoo weighing it down, I have nice thick hair.

I have not used antiperspirant nor deodorant in over 12 years. And I do not get that terrible stank in my pits. Sweat stink is a function of bad body chemistry. A good pH balance through proper nutrition and supplements will fix your body stank.

 Quoting: Bear Drinker

I use a mixture of coconut oil, baking soda and corn starch. Better than any store bought deodorant. I work in a very hot kitchen and though I sweat buckets, zero odor.

Baking soda rinses more easily and quickly than shampoo and leaves your hair soft and squeaky clean. :)

Re: Have you tried "No Poo'?
hair follicles release natural oils that condition your hair. unfortunately, these natural oils also trap dirt, dead skin and other crap in you your hair. I've found the absolute best cleanser is a diluted solution of Dawn dish washing liquid used every other shower. i got the idea watching oil fowled animals cleaned with it.

The idea is to remove the greasy residue but not effect the natural balance. Take a water bottle cap full of Dawn and mix it with 8 ounces water. use half on first wash and rinse, use other half on second wash. Because it is diluted it doesn't dry out your hair or scalp. The most important thing here is to make absolute certain all of the detergent is removed from the hair thoroughly after 2 minutes of application. you'll have shiny clean and soft feeling hair with just enough natural oils to make it managable
