Quoting: Agent13 LOL, I left active duty as an E-5 and the Army Reserves as an E-7. OP just did one and out, probably as just a PFC or a SPEC. And no campaign ribbons to boot. He probably thought getting his "sham shield" was a big achievement -- like when he got his pretty lil blue cord. LOL Did you just say reserves .....well that verifies he is a ninjafied combat veteran.... My time in combat was all served while on Active Duty -- I joined the reserves after 9-11, hoping to join in the fight, but my unit never deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan ... Doesn't matter though, I did my time in war (Panama and Desert Storm) ... As he sulked his way up the NCO ranks at leisure. Have the Will to change the world. #d13 The Dragon. If you were Army, being E-4 for 6 yrs is nothing to be proud of, though I can forgive it if most of that time was spent as a CPL. I finished my first enlistment as a Sergeant (E-5) -- I would have felt like a failure if I hadn't at least gotten that far. I only spent a short time as a SPEC -- before I was selected to be a Corporal (junior NCO, and those who have been in the US Army know you have to be a BADASS to be one -- otherwise you can just be a SPEC). In the Army's E-4 pay grade, you can be a "specialist", or you can be a Corporal. Anyone can be an E-4 SPC (you just had to put in at least two years back then and then it was pretty much automatic). To be a Corporal, you have to be promoted to specialist, then prove yourself to be a leader of men and women. Then and ONLY then will you get Corporal stripes. It's not an automatic promotion. As I said earlier, I left the reserves as a Sgt. First Class, so of course I am more proud of that -- but was proud to be a Corporal too. |

Quoting: Agent13 Yes, newb, things have changed, and not for the better -- the lowering of standards just to get bodies in uniform is why I only did one tour in the reserves. The Army we took to Desert Storm was far superior to what came after 9-11 -- we took out the 4th largest military in the worlds after less than 100 hours of ground combat. And I am very proud to have been a part of that fine Army. |
