Most of the earthquakes have been around magnitude 4.0, although five of them exceeded 5.0M. Residents in St. Paul and St. George have been feeling the effects. But as of Sunday afternoon, there were no reports of damage in either community. And there were no tsunami warnings, either. [link to kdlg.org] |

Quoting: Goofy for God The Bering Sea islands were shaken by 15 earthquakes from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening, according to the Alaska Earthquake Information Center website. The quakes ranged from magnitude 3.90 to 5.05. Thirteen were magnitude 4.0 or higher. [link to www.adn.com] From your link... Pletnikoff, 67, was born and raised on the island. He said he can’t recall ever feeling an earthquake before Friday. And... The Alaska Earthquake Information Center has one seismic station on St. Paul Island, but it reliably detects only earthquakes of about magnitude 4 or higher. That means smaller earthquakes that may point to a pattern or the orientation of a fault line go unrecorded. Not good. ~*Ride the Wave*~ |

So these aren't from fracking. The Pribilof Islands (formerly the Northern Fur Seal Islands) are a group of four volcanic islands off the coast of mainland Alaska, in the Bering Sea, about 200 miles (320 km) north of Unalaska and 200 miles southwest of Cape Newenham. The Siberia coast is roughly 500 miles (800 km) northwest. About 200 km2 (77 sq mi) in total area, they are mostly rocky and are covered with tundra, with a population of 572 as of the 2010 census.
