Re: help with a car
Wait a dog gone minute...after my divorce last year where I was left with the nag; a 94 Ford Ranger with two holes in the catalytic converter leaching exhaust in the cab and every imaginable repair after almost 200k miles (while she got the two Mercedes and a Honda Odyssey + the house and half a million in future earnings) I drove away, with the windows open of course, set on repairing my only means of transportation.

Someone mentioned 'pull a part'...and that's exactly what I did, piece by piece with whatever tools I could find. It's been a year now and I've replaced almost all the major parts myself using the time and research (YouTube yay) available.

Other than a dear friend loaning me his car for a couple of weeks I've had no other resources but time and energy to rely on. As an aside I've been staying with my sis at her apartment which doesn't allow car repairs so I have to do the work at night (auto ninja) when the main office is closed.

Last week I replaced my clutch which involves removing the transmission among other things. I did it with only 9 inches of space (rolled the truck onto ramps) and breathed in 13 hours of heavy pollen (Georgia).

I had never performed these types of repair before BUT where's there's a will, there's a way!

True....

I've replaced 2 front end bearings in 20 degree weather and 3 feet of snow.

Yup, all my friends said I was crazy!

I had to jump on my breaker bar to get the steering knuckle off.

Once fixed the alignment was dead on!!

This was before you tube, sometimes you just need to do it!

Idk, but there is a special feeling you get when you do something you never knew you could.

I'm not a very confident person, but willpower and the will to survive can make miracles happen.

Indeed, I'm with you bro

I have to say I'm impressed with the responses on this thread. Maybe not all of them because of the nasty nature of a couple, and you know who I'm talking about.

OP I wish you well and set up a paypal account so Canada can help you. There's nothing wrong with accepting help. Everyone has their trials in life.

I wish you well.

After replacing the clutch and driving a week my master clutch cylinder failed...the source of problem. Now I'm stranded, waiting on a hydraulic line (on line shopping for the cheapest solution).

I know what u meen. We have been doing that for a while brother. We have fixed every thing we can. And unfortunately there is no parts for this car anywhere around in a junkyard. Most of what we need to make it road worthy not even pass inspection is from the internet and quite pricy. Even the smaller parts are around 100 to 200 bucks.on top of a new exhaust. The one on It now is held in by coat hangers haha. To make it pass inspection we would need to compleatly rebuild the engine and thoes parts are worth way more then the car. The kelly blue book is under 4 hundred and I know I can find a car for about double that. It may not be perfect but between me my father and a good friend we can do almost everything needed to put a car on the road.

OK,

fix spray it with dish soap and water from an old spray bottle, while someone else depresses the clutch

Bubbles should form if there is a leak.

Cheapest solution try:

[link to www.oatey.com]

at home depot or lowes plumbing dept. Use sandpaper to scour the area around the fix to help the putty stick.

Believe it or not this stuff sealed my radiator leak...

Get yourself a/an old fleet vehicle...

something like an old cop car, easy to repair, cheap plentiful parts, built to last, and maintained.

I would sincerely help you if I could but I'm also a single mom and mind of struggling despite a pretty good job. Ask God to help you. Sincerely ask for His incredible help.

Yeah....ask God to help you.

Looks like God already doesn't like this person.
