So the power goes out, you look down at your cell phone and it's completely fried. At this point you know it's an EMP and because you are a GLPer you already have run through this scenario. Assuming your vehicle still works, what are the first three things you do? My three

1. Locate and gather the family
2. Fill every container I can find with water
3. Spend any cash on hand on more food

What are your 3?

Re: first three things after an EMP?
The only thing I see that will impede your plan is to make it to where you're going....IF your vehicle will still run - and you're not going further than one tankful - or however much you have in the tank at the time of the EMP.
 Quoting: Michele B

I can get to where I need to go (200 miles) in half a tank. I also have about 2 5 gallon gas cans (one always filled), and a gas siphon. Plus, I try not to let my tank get under 3/4, assuming it works. I always have about a dozen contingency plans.
 Quoting: Zedakah

I love that people think they're 'bugging out' to the country to be safe. You know what awaits you in the country? Instant death. Rural America isn't waiting for you and your BOB to come strollin' in here with a pie in the window and a spare bed made up. See, we were prepared for this too and we don't think you living in the big shitty was very smart - nor are you our problem.

Stay where you are. We find you fishing our river, hunting our deer, checking out our barn or sleeping in our woods, in an 'EOTWAWKI' situation, zero tolerance will be enacted. All you're gonna be doing is bringing us bags full of shit to eat or trade. If you think your little pop gun is gonna keep you safe, try fighting a 30-06 or 7.62 from a hundred yards.

Y'all have lived with this fantasy of roughing it in the woods and being smarter than everyone else because you packed some trail mix in a bag and have a gun. Nothing could be further from the truth. IF you survive the violent brown hoards, the violent white hoards, the violent black hoards, the people coming off of psych drugs cold turkey and the rogue/organized military - which is slim to none - you still have to deal with the large, conservative, intelligent, armed, self-sufficient families in prime bug out locations who've been waiting for this to happen. When it happens, staying where you are and trying to outlive your neighbors is your only hope. That and learning to love Soylent Green.

At the end of the day I think most of you will find the dead the lucky ones.

Where do you think you will find water. Most water delivery systems rely on electricity to have water pressure. So it won't be flowing out of the Faucet.

How will you get to and from the store with your goodies without a vehicle?
How will you safeguard your stuff from thieves on the way home with it?

Without other preps already in place, you will be dead.

Re: first three things after an EMP?
Always keep cash on hand. If an EMP, or any other major disruption hits, spend it all on food and supplies. Your credit or debit cards will not work once the grid goes down, or the banks close. Federal reserve notes wont be worth anything for very long, so want to spend them fast.
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

In the event the EMP is solar based and strong enough you won't have enough preps. In the event it's nuclear weapon based... it's a myth. You are not going to see wide spread grid failure from one blast. Localized sure but not continental, not even remotely close. They'd have to use about 5 over each state and at the point you might as well just hit the targets.
