That may be true. But if you have a wife and children and don't have any way to defend them, do you really want to watch them be slaughtered? When Jesus was about to be arrested, he told the apostles that if they didn't have a weapon, to sell their coats and buy one. A while later, He told Peter "Those who live by the sword, die by the sword." The reason why He wanted them to have a weapon with them was because He was no longer going to be with them. They needed to be able to protect themselves from animals, thieves or anyone who wants to do harm to them. However, His words later mean not to use a weapon on someone who cuts you off in traffic or someone who starts an argument with you in a store.
