His brother and his family spent Christmas and New Years in Ireland and Scotland. You might remember we had their pugs for 3 weeks.

He wanted to theme it after what he saw there. I’m really pleased how it turned out. Maybe some day I’ll start drinking casually again.

I never planned to stop forever when I quit. Having recently gone back to eating beef after 13 years, I have a tendency to change my mind over time. Heh.

It was living through the construction of game room in January that caused me to quit coffee(insomnia). He and his brother work together on the properties and they knocked this out in a couple weeks.

Turned out really well. Thought I’d post some pictures for inspiration.

Check out that steel beam.

.Truth made names in the world, and without them we can’t refer to truth. Truth is one and is many, teaching one thing through the many...
.It won't be seen or understood as something particular. Rather, the kingdom is spread out upon the earth, yet people do not see it..

Sometimes just getting started is the hard part..but then again I took no part in weeks of work to get it there. I stayed upstairs and tried to ignore the noise, while being somewhat annoyed our vacation had again turned into a ‘work vacation’, where I was alone and he was working.

It does wear on me but the end result can’t be argued with. I want to add one of those flat top retro video games they use to have at Pizza Hut. Remember those?

The pool table was already there just surrounded by garage stuff. The last picture in the series is the one ‘before’ shot I got. It was just drywall and bare concrete when they started.

They put in the windows down there years ago. Great view of the water from there.

 Quoting: Xlegic

The Chinese room argument holds that a digital computer executing a program cannot have a "mind", "understanding", or "consciousness", regardless of how intelligently or human-like the program may make the computer behave.

Chinese room thought experiment

Searle's thought experiment begins with this hypothetical premise: suppose that artificial intelligence research has succeeded in constructing a computer that behaves as if it understands Chinese. It takes Chinese characters as input and, by following the instructions of a computer program, produces other Chinese characters, which it presents as output. Suppose, says Searle, that this computer performs its task so convincingly that it comfortably passes the Turing test: it convinces a human Chinese speaker that the program is itself a live Chinese speaker. To all of the questions that the person asks, it makes appropriate responses, such that any Chinese speaker would be convinced that they are talking to another Chinese-speaking human being.

The question Searle wants to answer is this: does the machine literally "understand" Chinese? Or is it merely simulating the ability to understand Chinese? Searle calls the first position "strong AI" and the latter "weak AI".

Searle argues that, without "understanding" (or "intentionality"), we cannot describe what the machine is doing as "thinking" and, since it does not think, it does not have a "mind" in anything like the normal sense of the word. Therefore, he concludes that the "strong AI" hypothesis is false.

I’m glad you asked. I noticed my desire for beef started to overshadow my prohibition from consuming it. I asked for prime rib on NYE and on Valentine’s Day. It was excellent and I hadn’t noticed any negatives.

For years i thought I might lose my higher energetic connections but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Yesterday my third eye got pinged so hard it felt like my forehead would crack open.

I believe it was a meme I saw of a pot roast and I asked if we could have a pot roast with a lot of carrots. It was delicious and I noticed the nagging pain in my lower left quadrant stopped hurting.

After years of dealing with that intermittent pain, to have it gone after eating beef, was all I needed to keep doing it.

We’ve had 3 pot roasts since the first and I’ve dedicate Pot Roast Monday, to keep the trend going. I took a picture of the last roast to show my dad and brother I eat beef now. Not the greatest picture.

This one was a cross rib roast. We didn’t like it as much as the regular pot roast. Fun to try new things.

Thread: I am a Chinese Glper ask me a question (Page 9)

Can you explain how these 'rural areas' work? Are they like open fields to grow food? Are they housed inside a fence? Are they slaves? Allowed to leave?

One either get a job in the city or become a field worker or factory worker?

Do many females from those countries willing seek out Chinese husbands or it is through kidnapping and human trafficking?
 Quoting: Seer777

Chinese government has been done this for many times. After the end of the culture revolution, Mao realized that his red guards could be a potential threat to his power, he then ordered the young students to go to vast rural area, they went there live with peasants, work in collective farms, they needed to self-sufficiency in there, and heavily monitoring by politics bureaucracy. It's basically a labour camp.
My parents was the victims of this movement, so does many Chinese families. They usually couldn't finish high school.

China is not an agriculture self-sufficiency country, as the gov cutting short of the import from US, and large part of the unemployment in the city they need to once again solve the problem.

Some of them are willingly, lots of them just illegal human trafficking, it's a black market
 Quoting: oOZ

Are you talking about The Great Leap Forward? I saw a documentary some years back about this very thing.

How much of that history is taught to youth or is it a taboo subject?

How is the mass starvation and the memories of those who survived spun to the Chinese public today?

Here is the documentary if you have a desire to watch it and tell how accurate it is..

You know what the 'Lock him up' bit reminds me of.. The 'landlord vs. peasant trials'.

Mass killings of landlords under Mao Zedong

Part of Mao Zedong's land reform during the late phase of the Chinese Civil War and the early People's Republic of China was a campaign of mass killings of landlords in order to redistribute land to the peasant class and landless workers.

It resulted in millions of deaths. Those killed were targeted on the basis of class rather than ethnicity, so terming the campaign genocide is incorrect. The neologism “classicide" is more accurate.

Class-motivated mass killings continued through the almost 30 years of social and economic transformation in Maoist China resulting in the deaths of 90% to 95% of the what used to be 15 million members of the landlord class in China according to Harry Wu

20 to 43 million people perished from starvation during the Great Leap Forward. Not all deaths during the Great Leap Forward were due to starvation. Frank Dikötter estimates that at least 2.5 million people were beaten or tortured to death and an additional 1 to 3 million people committed suicide.

The Great Leap Forward also led to the greatest destruction of real estate in human history, outstripping any of the bombing campaigns during World War II. Approximately 30 to 40 percent of all houses were demolished.

It's not the great leap forward, there are too many politics movements when Mao was in power. Culture revolution was after GLF, and at the middle of culture revolution there was 'down to the countryside movement', I known it's really confused...they kept come up with new movements to dumbing down young people

Thanks for clarifying. This part in particular sound very familiar..

The Cultural Revolution started with Mao reaching out to high school students for ideological and material support.

They were asked to target teachers viewed as possessing or propagating capitalist views and rebelling against them, which many were open to due to high academic pressure.

[link to en.m.wikipedia.org (secure)]
 Quoting: Seer777

 Quoting: Seer777

Anti-Intellectualism

People's Republic of China

The Cultural Revolution (1966–1976) was a politically violent decade which saw wide-ranging social engineering throughout the People's Republic of China by its leader Chairman Mao Zedong.

After several national policy crises during which he was motivated by his desire to regain public prestige and control of the Chinese government, Mao announced on 16 May 1966 that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and Chinese society were permeated with liberal bourgeois elements who meant to restore capitalism to China and he also announced that people could only be removed after a post–revolutionary class struggle was waged against them. To that effect, China's youth nationally organized themselves into Red Guards and hunted the "liberal bourgeois" elements who were supposedly subverting the CCP and Chinese society. The Red Guards acted nationally, purging the country, the military, urban workers and the leaders of the CCP.

The Red Guards were particularly aggressive when they attacked their teachers and professors, causing most schools and universities to be shut down once the Cultural Revolution began. Three years later in 1969, Mao declared that the Cultural Revolution was ended, yet the political intrigues continued until 1976, concluding with the arrest of the Gang of Four, the de facto end of the Cultural Revolution.
