I am just now finding my faith and am looking to pick up my own personal bible for study/reading and insight. I know most would King James version however I have received mixed feedback from the KJV. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 70282771 Thank you ahead of time! While this is an area in which reasonable people can disagree, I would suggest either the New American Standard version (NASB) or the English Standard Version (ESV). I prefer these because they are essentially "word-for-word" translations of the Hebrew and Greek texts, but employ language that is easier to understand than the classic King James version. This is not to say that the King James version is not a worthy translation. But for a "new" Christian just getting into the Word, the somewhat archaic language of the KJV may at times be a bit off-putting. There are many who might recommend, for "readability" sake, the New International Version (NIV). I have less regard for the NIV, which is a not a "word-for-word" translation but one which employs the so-called "dynamic equivalence" method of translation: "thought-for-word." Again, reasonable people can disagree on this. At all costs, avoid "The Message" by Eugene Peterson, which is not a "Bible" at all, but a gross "paraphrase" that is by no means a true translation of the Word of God. |

And, as to this, the New Testament (i.e., the "New Covenant") is the new covenant that God made with His people, the nation of Israel. Jeremiah 31:31-34. Cf. Mark 14:24. God never made a covenant with the Church. |

There is no mediator required between the mediator Jesus Christ and mankind. The LARGE ORGANISED religions will tell you they are needed between Jesus Christ and mankind. That is a LIE! In the industry of "Spiritual Warfare", the damage done by LARGE and small organised religions to turn people's stomachs over regarding Jesus Christ is about complete. If you want to learn what Jesus Christ really meant...ask Him to teach you His words. The LARGE institutional religions water down the Truth so much, it is like desiring a 'martini' and getting 'Mad Dog 20/20' instead. For those that do not know, Jesus Christ has only 4 books out of 66 that make up the modern Bible. Those 4 books only 120 pages in length are titled Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, they are also called the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Truth or the Good News. The Good News is about how mankind's disconnection from God can be reestablished thru that one man Jesus Christ. We fell through Adam and we arise through the Christ. The Good News is how to live here now and how to get ready for life there later. Jesus Christ's philosophy was handed to him from his Father, our Father....God. It is a philosophy of grace...it is not a performance based philosophy....you can do nothing but accept it as a gift of grace. Become FREE for FREE==> [link to www.e-sword.net] Download an additional bible called the GNB or Good News Bible (it is in everyday easy English) for easy reading. Included are commentaries on each passage to help with difficult areas. The Lord desires to develop a personal relationship as a parent to child, brother to brother and brother to sister with us. |

Without it, the New Testament has no basis. |

I'd say, read it keeping in mind that it's a way to let love in your heart, and to seek an higher Christ Consciousness. If you get a hard copy of the King James Version, or even if you just read it online, make sure to read the Dedication at the beginning of the Book. It is dedicated the 'The Most High and Mighty Prince James'! I've always wondered why that version is called the King James Version when it's dedicated to Prince James. I've been suspicious that it has something to do with the fact that Jacob is anglicized James! |
