Got really pissed off at the grocery store today. Hispanics pay less at the grocery store for the same products with Hispanic lables.

I had a somewhat similar experience a couple weeks ago, but didn't mention it here. I was at the local Pik n Sav picking up some tea and lemonade. The cashier asked the woman in front of me how she was going to pay, and I watched as the cashier pressed the EBT button, her total went down about 10%. Has anyone ever seen that before? I've never been in line right behind an EBT customer before.

I always thought it was because of how american companies operate.

They pay shareholders, ceo's, management the workers more.

Well, not so much the management or workers but you get the point. They also advertise, etc etc.

stores in the south wouldn't be in business if it weren't for ebt's by the way... most of their sales are the first week when handouts are given

I have noticed that you can buy a brand name (say Pine Sol) or a store generic for lesser cost OR an obviously Mexican import brand that the Mexicans favor for considerably HIGHER cost. There brand loyalty to the old country familiar products is strong.

So many missing the point. I know I can buy it. I can buy what I want.

I am not buying products from a company that discriminates and charges different races different prices for basically the same thing.

I guess you don't get out much OP.

Not to detract from your point, cause I agree with it, but I can go to my local store and pay more than a dollar more for the same product on the other side of town in the same grocery store chain.

It's about demographics. My store is full of organic and higher end products that the other store doesn't even carry conversely if I want to buy a lunch able at my store they are more than a dollar higher than at the other store.

If you look in the Asian food isle you'll find some products are half the cost of their traditionaly sourced counterparts.

Maybe I'm missing something g here but I don't really see what you are posting about as abnormal.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4189569

It's alot more complicated than OP realizes. It's your store setting the price to sell it to customers. When a product is in a production run it is set at a block and is priced, sometimes there are sales promotions. The Spanish soap would have been a separate production run. It is doubtful the store sells them in equal amounts. So they are from different production blocks.

Re: Got really pissed off at the grocery store today. Hispanics pay less at the grocery store for the same products with Hispanic lables.
I was at the store earlier and was buying fabric softener. Now it just happened to catch my eye there are the same products on the side positioned so they don't just stand out with hispanic labeling and it is considerably less expensive. Sadly my photo editing skills on a phone are not up to par. But the Gain softener with a Hispanic lable costs 4¢ an ounce. Gain with an English lable is 10¢ an ounce. Downy with a Hispanic liable is 12¢ an ounce compared to 14¢ an ounce, not a big difference but still a difference. Granted the bottles contain different amounts, but if you comapre the cost per ounce you see it. I didn't think to look at Tide until a while after I left the store, but I am sure there is a difference there as well. So P&G is catering to the Hispanic population? Why should they pay less for basically the same product. Granted I do not know Spanish, so I could not compare the ingredients, but I would guess they are identical products. Same consistency and same smell. I will not purchase any more P&G products. Please share this so others don't get ripped off too. Most wouldn't catch this. Might have to enlarge the pics to see the store tags and labels better. Things like this burn me up. I believe it is also the same in the coffee and cocoa sections by Nestles. I am definitely going to be much more aware of things.

So what? If what you are saying is true, just buy the "Spanish language version" of those products and save yourself some money. Why get so bent out of shape? Nobody is restricting you to the "English language version," are they?

you would squeak if the Spanish language ones cost more.

From what I see here if your state charges tax on grocery items they don't have to pay the tax on it unless they use a coupon or it's pop.

I noticed this with spices. Waaaay cheaper in that aisle than out of the normal spice isle.

Pro tip: Start making your own laundry detergent and stop being a rube.

Baking soda/Borax/ essential oil of your choice/ shaved natural soap bar/ hot water.

I make 5 gallons for like $3

Also, Commercial deodorant is expensive poison: Baking soda/Corn starch/ Coconut oil/ Tea Tree Oil. Works like a charm.

I use those exact recipes! My deoderant is the bomb!I love it so much! Its sick how much I love my deoderant. It was a lifesaver for my friend who had breast cancer. She had to eliminate all toxins in her food and body products, but none of the natural deoderants worked and this did!! She was so grateful, and I was so glad I could help her out during that difficult time. She just dropped off some home made body butter and lip balm. She says my deoderant changed her life. Lol

I don't know about all states. But in Washington State EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer aka Foodstamps) and WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) are different. EBT anyone at any age can quality for. The customer swipes it just like a debit card and enters a pin. It's only cold food products as far as I know. Not all but some people also qualify for CASH back at time of transaction. The customer and also buy things like toilet paper and beer in the same transaction. Just the foodstuffs is taken off the total any they use cash, or a real debit/credit card.

Now WIC is different. it's just for mom's and food babies need, baby food, milk and formula. They actually have a big paper slip like a large check. They show ID and have to sign it and the cashier runs it through like a check and then keeps it.

I understand the premise of this thread. It's about prices being different for the exact same product.

Nevertheless, I learned about 15 years ago to shop frugal. One can save a lot of money on spices, canned beans, canned peppers, canned sardines, dry beans and dry pasta down the Spanish isle. A little glass jar of Spice Islands brand Cumin or Paprika can be like $6. Yet down the Spanish isle the same is like $1 or $3. Sure it comes in a plastic bag, but who cares.

Head down the Asian isle to save money on rice, ramen and things like that. Down the Asian isle is also real rice, not minute rice or Uncle Ben's crap. Try Jasmine or Basmati rice, it's tasty.

80% are milking welfare.
Just had to kick out two deadbeat roommates for not paying rent also on food stamps.

They worked at the same place then tried running me down to the Hispanic supervisor.

They were quickly shown for the dead beat leeches they are .

Then they tried threatening me.

Mfer bad move.
