anyone in the states that cannabis is legal. what do your workplaces do about it?

I heard most companies use it as an excuse/allibi to fire anyone when the job/order/whatever is done. I've heard through the grapevine very few companies even pay unemployment anymore in CO and OR.

Seriously?! A drug test for stitches???

I don't live in a cannabis legal state but I've always shown up for job interviews stoned. If they hire mr, they like me that way. And, I would never apply at a company that drug tests.

I would assume that it would vary from workplace to workplace, but most will defer to Federal law.

And in 3 states that I've worked, MN, SD and KS there are laws in place that requires all temporary hire and all hiring agencies to drug test before initial employment as well as for any injuries as well as before a *valid* lay-off.

Basically when there's any change in your employment status it's required by state laws that you get drug tested.

Washington state here. Absolutely nothing in regards to employment has changed. You still have to pass pre drug screens to be hired and if you are hurt on the job to where medical attention is needed you must take a drug test under rules from Labor & Industries (basically workmans comp).

All that was really done is you cannot be criminally charged for possession up to a certain amount and you can buy it from shops therefore not having to deal with a dealer.

I wouldn't expect much until it is changed on the federal level.

i always felt drug testing was a violation of your rights.You did nothing wrong as of yet why test me? (ok certain fields need it like cops, train operators, and pilots)

i work for a school district and even if the feds made it legal the district will still have a zero tolerance law on it. loop holes will be that if you claim addiction to it they'll have to let you clean up before firing you because of the unions. any places without union protection can pretty much do what they want now UNLESS they have contracts and/or work closely with any government agencies. in those cases...they'll still have to follow fed law. and really...most businesses will never stand for it...especially if there's driving...flying...working pretty much any kind of machinery...etc...etc...etc. i like smokin...vapin and consuming tasty edibles...but if i owned a business i wouldn't want a bunch of stoned fucks drivin my vehicles...cranes or runnin anything else they could potentially fuck up either.

funny though that the maintenance and custodial positions deal with random drug tests...but most times it;s if you really fuck somethin up or just let yourself go because of your self medicating. maintenance i could see...but come on man...custodians? unless they're runnin floor scrubers the worst they're gonna do to anyone is run over them with a mop bucket.

Wow! The mainland really has become the insaneland! None of that lunacy here in Hawaii. There are very few jobs that even require any kind of drug testing period.

but in texas its piss test for all industrial work and autoparts and temps.

It has nothing to do with the state. It has to do with the company you work for.

Any company can turn you away if you don't pee clean even in a pot state.

Quite the contrary. I just recently (3 months ago) retired as professional pastry chef. Working part time selling fine art now. Maybe there are more drug test employers on Oahu but on the outer islands like Kauai, they would have a very hard time finding employees.

Federal law still trumps state law, so if you have a job that impacts Federal jurisdiction or licensing, such as D.O.T. For truck drivers you're SOL. Also if you have a script for marijuana you can kiss your right to own a gun goodbye no matter if you're in a legal state or not.

Some rural counties HAVE to issue CCW , mainly East and North.

People have guns and weed all the time in Humboldt.

The people I work with everyday carry fake piss around just in case because they smoke often. It's not that hard people. You can order that shot everywhere.

All of the industrial jobs in the southern USA require pre-employment drug tests and drug tests are required with any on the job injury.
The companies require it, not the govt.

meaning you want to work in a auto plant or a chicken processing plant or a chainsaw manufacturing plant, etc etc you gonna get tested.
