Have you ever avoided an accident or tragedy due to a decision that seemed insignificant at the time?
Today on my way home from work I suddenly decided to stop at a store. I pulled into the parking lot and found a spot to park. I sat there a minute trying to figure out why I had stopped since I had dinner all planned out and didn't need anything.

A moment later I pulled back out on the street and continued towards home. I got to an intersection and realized there was an accident involving at least 6 cars including the SUV I had been behind. It was a minor accident. My pulling over didn't save my life or anything. But it was a reminder of how a small seemingly insignificant decision can have a big affect on us.

Years ago my car was in the shop and the hottest little chick ever wanted to hang out. I go over and take a case of beer, we are partying and she was sitting on my lap, a little bit later I have her in bed kissing on her, as soon as I go to take my belt off my phone rings and its my mom needing picked up from work early. I told her give me a half hr, she said I'll call the cops. Long story short I left and found out that chick gave all my friends herpes!

Mom helped me dodge that bullet.

Absolutely! When I worked, I traveled on a major highway. There were times I was upset with myself when I was 5-10 minutes late leaving the house. It seemed that every time I was late, I saw a major accident on the road and I could have been involved. Also...how many times have I waited, when a red light turned green, and a car or truck runs the red light?

15 years ago I was driving south on the new england highway heading to Moree in NSW.

In front of me was a road train and coming up behind me a fair distance was another. Moree was only 15 minutes away where i was going to stop and get dinner. But for no real reason i saw a rest top coming up on my left and felt a very strong urge to pull over and stop.

So I did...got out of the car and stretched my legs and lit a smoke just before the other road train that was behind me whooshed on past doing at least 140 kph.

He was MOVING..and fully loaded...with cows. He seemed to be unable to slow down and was picking up speed. I watched him approach the other road train i had been stuck behind and attempt to overtake...as he started to change lanes one of his tyres blew and went right into the truck he was trying to pass and both trucks went flying into the oncoming lane into a other truck coming the other way.

All three trucks disintergrated in bits and cows went everywhere...was very VERY messy...and no one survived.

Had i not pulled over...for no reason....i would have been part of that mess.

Re: Have you ever avoided an accident or tragedy due to a decision that seemed insignificant at the time?
Yes, I sensed something really bad was going to happen about an hour before it did. I didn't know what it was at the time.

About a minute before it happened that sense got way stronger.

I was a passenger in a serious car accident. My girlfriend at the time wanted to go with us but I told her to stay and didn't say why because I didn't know for sure, just that really bad feeling I had.

It's like some force was pushing me to go even though my senses were telling me no. That was 14 years ago and I remember it like it happened yesterday.

There were also signs leading up to that accident about a week before it happened but that was all in hindsight.

Re: Have you ever avoided an accident or tragedy due to a decision that seemed insignificant at the time?
The New England Patriots game was over and we were walking back home along route 1. A drunk man in a large car swerved towards me but I made eye contact with him. His eyes said to me "I won't hit this kid". He proceeded down route 1 another 100 yards and drove his car into 12 unsuspecting Patriot fans flipping them 15 feet high into the air... as I watched in horror. As I walked by the carnage I could see an oatmeal type substance coming out of the mouth of one poor guy and his legs had compound fractures at the knee's. Body's were laying everywhere.
If I had not made eye contact with this crazy driver I think he would have hit me and the people walking around me. Or if I had been walking faster and up the road 100 more yards I would have been hit. Me looking at him in that critical 2 seconds I think changed the drivers mind and saved my life.yoda The force be with you.

When I was a kid I was gonna stop at a Bodega on my way home from school and get a popsicle. They had giant freezies for 50 cents. Someone stole my money out of my desk so I didn't get to go. I was super pissed at the time. It was a big deal to my 9 year old self. I took a different way home from school so I could vent to a friend about what happened. If I had walked my normal route I would have walked past the little corner store.

When I got home my mom was freaking out. I assumed it was because I took longer than she expected. Turnes out there had been a shooting at the store not long after school let out. A little girl died and a few people were injured. I had no idea. If someone hadn't stole my money I would have been in the store. And if I didn't walk with that friend I would have been walking past.

A few years ago I went to a Hallowe'en party at a friend's home whom I hadn't seen for quite awhile. As I was leaving, she came out an chatted with me for a few minutes "catching up" before I started the car and left.

If she hadn't come out, I wouldn't have been about 10 minutes behind the spot where I would have been- - right where a single-engine airplane crashed into/onto the freeway, and in the lane I always drive in!

I used to drive trucks delivering plasterboard. 16 January 2013 i was supposed to deliver some plasterboard to a place called the tower which was being built near Vauxhall bridge in London. I had to be there for 0800 sharp.

The company I was working for treated me crap so to teach them a lesson I decided to stop in the services to get brekkie en route which I knew would make me super late.

Anyway, long story short. @0759 that morning a helicopter crashed into the crane that was bolted to the building. A Large chunk of that helicopter landed where I would have been parked and unloading.

Wife and I went Christmas shopping several years ago and we left our 1 year old son with my parents. Turning into the shops I had a green arrow but felt an overwhelming urge to not hit the accelerator and just keep my foot on the brake. I obeyed and in the next few seconds a car going full speed ran that Red light, the young girls were laughing hysterically and were completely unaware of what they'd just done! Weirdest sensation I've ever had and it has never happened again since but it did save us from a serious accident! God is watching and so are his angels!

Re: Have you ever avoided an accident or tragedy due to a decision that seemed insignificant at the time?
I was a sponsored snowboarder throughout the 90's & got to go places most people only see in magazines. Usually the only access was by snow cat, helicopter or by hiking.

This particular day in Whistler BC a friend & I rode hard all day until it began to get dark. It had been snowing all day & the light became "flat"(The sky, the ground & the falling snow are the same color) so judging depth becomes very difficult.

There were avalanche warnings all day and we were mindful of that having lost a friend a few years before. As it got darker & colder & we grew more tired which is usually a perfect storm for tragedy.

A group of kids had hiked up to where we were. They were young maybe 15-16 and their were 5 of them. We were about to leave so I suggested they follow us back as the storm would get worse. They had just gotten there after a 3 hour hike & were determined to "get one good run in"... So we left them & rode as fast as we could to the base of the mountain. By now it was a full on white out and we were lucky to make it the main road below.

At breakfast the next morning we saw the news that all 5 kids had perished in an avalanche. Some froze to death and some were suffocated by the tremendous weight of the ice & snow. If we had stayed 5-10 minutes longer it would have been us too.

After driving for about 20 minutes, my older brother casually said, "hey, why don't you go ahead and put your seat belt on.." Three minutes later he lost control of the car, smashed through a barricade and drove off a 75ft embankment, tumbling end over end, coming to rest upside down in small creek. I didn't have a scratch on me.

I call BS on this one. If the shooting happened so soon after you left you would have heard the gunshots, but since you didnt, even if you had the money, you would have easily had enough time to buy what you needed, browse a little and maybe even sit down for a minute or two and read a magazine, then leave and still avoid the shooting.

case closed.

I've had it happen to me too. I interpret it as God wants to show me how delicate our daily life is and he wants me to continue working for something on this earth. My mission isn't complete, if you will.

Has happened to me... once at a red light i heard an audible voice telling me to wait before going. Truck ran a red going 60, I would have been dead or seriously injured. Another time I pulled off the road on the highway in the middle of the night after hallucinating a visual warning. Waited 5 minutes and then continued on. A few minutes down the road an accident had happened with no one on scene, cars overturned.

I am a Christian and believe that God intervened in these situations.

I was leaving a job site one time, and at this particular facility I usually exit through the inside of the plant to perform one final check on the system I maintain there.

This one day I decided I shouldn't, because technically I'm signed out already and nobody would know I was inside.

There was a release of highly toxic ammonia right in the area i was headed to if I had performed the final check, and the worst part would have been nobody would have gone looking for me had I been overcome by it since I was signed out.

Only one I can think of... I was running to catch the bus and stupidly ran diagonally across an intersection of a seemingly empty road. I saw this hot chick walking past me and I did a double take, turned my head, and momentarily slowed down. Just after that point a truck passed through the intersection an inch or two in front of me. Scariest moment of my life. Had I not paused for a moment I definitely would have been hit.
