If the 530 Sv/hr is in a deep hole in the ground and you have distance and mass between you and the source, It may not even be measureable. There are 44 billion tons of Uranium dissolved in the oceans, yet their contribution to the total radiation content of seawater is miniscule (less than 1/10th Bq/liter Most radioactive substances released were "heavy metals". Cesium can equilibrate in the same body sites as Potassium, while plutonium equilibrates in the same sites as Iron. One can reach a steady state if exposed to the same concentration, but eventually the body begins to excrete or lose it in the same way as it does potassium or Iron. They do not bio-accumulate like fat-soluble poisons do. However if one received 300 milliSv/hr (300,000 microSv/hr) for one hour every day for 4 days, then the dose would be cumulative (1.2 Sv) and would likely cause radiation sickness; however, receiving 300 milliSv once a month for 4 months, one would not get radiation sickness--the accumulation must be over a short interval. Most of the Cs in fish and molluscs ends up in bone and shell. If you ingested substances that were emitting several hundred CPM , you would not accumulate a toxic dose. So over the short term, exposure to external radiation can be cumulative. Ingestion of radioactive substances is more difficult to describe. Safe levels of Cs for drinking water in the US is 3700Bq/M^3. Sounds like a lot, but it isn't (normal seawater radioactive is, and has been forever, about 14,000 Bq/M^3 or 14 Bq/liter. People in Ramsar, Iran and on the Black sand beaches of Brazil can be exposed to 90 micro Sv/hr background continuously, and there is no increased incidents of cancer that I can find reported in those places. I have heard it said that if one repeats the truth often enough, some people may begin to understand it. Others never do. Other than yourself, what are your sources of information? If you are so convinced of your impecable information, then please site the appropriate sources.
