"A ‘very credible’ new study on Seattle’s $15 minimum wage has bad news for liberals"
When Seattle officials voted three years ago to incrementally boost the city's minimum wage up to $15 an hour, they'd hoped to improve the lives of low-income workers. Yet according to a major new study that could force economists to reassess past research on the issue, the hike has had the opposite effect.

The city is gradually increasing the hourly minimum to $15 over several years. Already, though, some employers have not been able to afford the increased minimums. They've cut their payrolls, putting off new hiring, reducing hours or letting their workers go, the study found.

The costs to low-wage workers in Seattle outweighed the benefits by a ratio of three to one, according to the study, conducted by a group of economists at the University of Washington who were commissioned by the city.

gomer

Most predictable event ever.

Anybody know what Nobel Krugman had to say about this? Guaranteed, he said it would work just great.

raising the minimum wage that high doesn't work. All prices go up and jobs go down. That 1.59 McDouble is suddenly 2.99 and that happens across the board on all services/goods/food, etc. I saw one study that finds when all the prices increase, the people making the 15 an hour actually have less spending money because all the shit they buy went up 25% up to 500%.

It is a difficult to manage sweat shops and overpriced minimum wage that is detrimental to the economy.

Too cheap and it is miserable for the slave worker...to expensive and it is miserable for the business owner.

Hence why unions were created to swing tje pendulum the other way. We are seeing that full swing now as impact in q negative way.

Capitalism was suppose to cure this. And I reason it could have, but lawlessness entered the arena and spawned crony capitalism.

Solid point.

Crony capitalism IS NOT free market capitalism.

Free market capitalsim is how fortunes are made and everyone rises up....

Crony capitalism is how monopolies are made and everyone gets beat back away from the ladder going up

As if we didn't know that was going to happen...

The reason the gov likes high minimum wage is because then they don't have to pay for these dumb ass kids... They make the private sector do it.
