Just because you thought of something doesn't automatically make it right. Contrails and persistent contrails have been observed since the 1920s, when planes were able to fly high enough. Before airplanes, meteors where seen to create vapor trails, what we know call contrails. The by product of combustion is water. At 30,000+ feet cirrus clouds form naturally. It depends on the temperature and humidity whether contrails form. Aluminum is the most common metal in the Earth's crust, it is everywhere. High bypass engines are more prone to contrail formation [link to elib.dlr.de] The first high bypass engine was tested in 1964 commercial versions became available in the 1970s and 1980s. For reasons of fuel economy, and also of reduced noise, almost all of today's jet airliners are powered by high-bypass turbofans. Water vapor is a greenhouse gas but has a very short persistence time, about 7 days. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas and has a very long persistence time, years. So for the purpose of this discussion - we will look at the fact that the bottom line is planes are technically creating clouds... I think maybe you should think about comparing air traffic from the 1920s to air traffic of today... Surely there are more flights today, to more areas of the worlds, almost constantly... So every single commercial airliner or transport plane flying at 35,000ft and higher, under the right conditions, can create a persistent trail of water vapor, which spreads out into a cirrus cloud... Use a pair of binoculars, then you can see the livery. 2. They don't. You confuse upper level winds with a criss-cross pattern. One plane flies over, the wind blows the contrail downwind and the next plane follows the same flight path and creates a new contrail . This is well known. 3, 4, 6, 7, 8. You haven't shown the existence of chemtrails so the questions are meaningless. 5. What appears to be side by side on the ground could be a separation of thousands of feet. One in a contrail producing region, the other not. In the experiments done when planes are side by side, the engines are different. 9, 10. The response is from people, like me, who understand and like science. I do not like the propagation of psuedoscience and scare tactics passed off as science. It is not! Chemtrails is just a psuedoscientific effort so someone can make money. Just like Roswell, New Mexico, they don't want someone conclusively showing that aliens didn't land, then all the tourist dollars dry up. Books and videos are sold about chemtrails. People ask for donations to "fight the chemtrail menace". Where do you think that money really goes? It lines the pockets of charlatans who are lying to you. |

It allows incoming radition to penetrate but also does a very good job of containing outgoing radiation... So no matter what your theory about the lines in the sky is - shouldnt the fact that planes appear to be creating a massive amount of water vapor be a huge part of the discussion? A persistent contrail is NOT "more water vapor". It's the same amount as other planes leave except that the atmosphere is more humid. But, that is RELATIVE humidity and doesn't mean there is more water vapor, it means that the colder the air is, the less it can hold. Higher RH doesn't mean more water is added, it just means that the amount of water added from the engines pushes the air saturation past the supersaturated point. There could be less moisture in the air than where short lived contrails are noticed. It's that the temperature is much lower so the RHi is higher. |

They aren't "worked into" anything. If the air is cold enough and saturated RHi, then contrails will persist. And when discussing "chemtrail" nonsense, it's always persistent contrails...AKA, contrails. The question asked was, are contrail included in climate models? The answer is yes.
